Hospital Wing - 1976 @afracturedstar

Andromeda took any shifts she could at Hogwarts, not only because she needed the money, but also because she wanted to keep an eye on her younger cousins. She knew she had no right, she had left the family after all, but she couldn’t help to want to check if they were at least alright.

It didn’t last long before she found out that Sirius had left home, and even if she wanted to keep in contact, Sirius might not, he might want to distance himself from Black and former Black family members alike, and she couldn’t blame him. What was left to do is asked her contacts at school if he was okay, and try to see if she could catch a glimpse before she left the castle.

However, life had funny ways of working out, and the patient that landed in her care was none other that Sirius Black III. Making her relieved and worried all at the same time.

“Merlin, Sirius, what happened to you?” she asked, concerned.

Things at 12 Grimmauld Place had shifted recently. With Sirius almost completely out of the picture, their parents were watching Regulus as though he were slide under a microscope. The aggression that was once directed at his brother was now directed at him and Regulus was having a hard time dealing with it. How did Sirius put up with it for so long? The thing he looked most forward to was when his parents went to bed. Things were quiet in the night, it meant he could relax for a few hours and focus on the things he wanted to focus on rather than what his parents wanted him to focus on. Regulus had chosen this, though. To be the good child, to be the one his parents praised. It would have been easy to get caught up in the same behavior as Sirius, to get in trouble and act out. Honestly, he wanted to so badly when he was young, but the pressure of being the expected child outweighed his desire to get in trouble.

He was in his room, surrounded by silence and lit candles. Regulus sifted through copies of the Daily Prophet he had collected over the past few weeks, clipping out articles on the Dark Lord or anything that had to do with pureblood ideals. He liked being surrounded by reminders of what he aspired to be. One of them, a Death Eater. Fighting for the purity of the wizarding world. Though he was startled by a thump in the room across from his. No one had been in Sirius' room in months, there was no way Kreacher would have gone in and both his parents had been asleep for hours. Slipping out of bed, Regulus grabbed his wand from his bedside table and slowly exited his room, creeping quietly to the next bedroom to see what caused the noises. He slowly pushed open the door to see a figure, seemingly grabbing things at random. Just as he was about to raise his wand, he realized it was Sirius. "The hell are you doing?" Regulus asked, his voice quiet enough not to disturb his parents on the floor below them, but loud enough for his brother to hear him.

Edgar had been wanting to talk to Sirius for a long time about this, but he hadn’t had the chance or the ability to until now. He’d sent Sirius an owl, with an overly formal and fancy looking invitation requesting Sirius’ presence at his house for brunch. Annie was out, visiting Bianca, and Edgar had cleaned up the house enough that it was presentable by the time he heard Sirius apparate onto the back porch. He waved him in, busy in the kitchen.

“Sirius,” he said when the younger boy opened the door to enter. “Hey. You hungry? I’m making pancakes, eggs, bacon... the whole selection here, really.” He was wondering how many things he could jam on the plate before Sirius realized this was a “sorry your brother is a Death Eater, let’s talk about your feelings” breakfast.

Mary knew that she should give Sirius time. Sirius and Remus. They needed time to talk, to work out what had happened. To calm each other. She knew that, logically, but Mary was a worrier. And Remus himself had said Sirius was hurt. She’d sent him with as many potions as she had on hand that might work but, not having known she’d need something more specific to werewolf bites, she’d lacked anything truly effective. So to distract herself and assure that she waited a respectable amount of time before poking her nose in, Mary spent the rest of that day and the next buried in books and research, cooking up potions on her kitchen counter - surely violating the terms of her lease - and trying to find something that would help.

And so it was - with potions, powders, and dinner in hand - that she showed up on Sirius’ doorstep. She knocked on the door, somewhat awkwardly for all the bags she carried, hoping he was at least well enough to make it to the door without hurting himself. Or at least had the sense to call out if he wasn’t instead of forcing himself.
