midnight menace ~ lilysirius&james
Teeth grazing over her plump bottom lip, Lily flipped the page of her brand new Charms book, eager to familiarize herself with the text even though term had yet to begin. This wasn't unusual for her, though. There was little subject matter taught at Hogwarts that Lily found uninteresting and as a result, she often read her appointed texts front to back before even arriving at Hogwarts. It wasn't the most exciting way to spend the last few days of her vacation, at least in anyone else's opinion aside from hers, but Lily had never been the type to build her life around other's expectations.
Shifting on her bed, Lily kicked up her feet behind her and crossed them at the ankles, eyes still darting across the text before her. Just as she moved to turn another page though, a soft tap sounded at her window, causing her to perk up a bit and glance over in hopes of seeing the source of the noise. As another tap sounded, she furrowed her brow and bookmarked her page, quickly shutting the book before she sat up more. With a quick look at her clock, she grumbled under her breath before pushing up off of the bed. It was past midnight and she wasn't exactly accustomed to visitors, let alone this late, so she was certain it must be an owl. Though, there weren't many people who would send her a letter at such a ridiculous hour.
Making her way towards the window, she heard the tap again, catching sight of something hitting the glass before bouncing off again, no doubt a rock from her mother's garden. Moving closer, she squinted in hopes of catching sight of who it was, her wand clenched in her hand just in case, but the light in her room was making it far too difficult to see through the darkness outside. Forcing the window up and open, Lily leaned out slightly in hopes of a better view before something small and hard hit her square in the forehead.
"Ouch!" The redhead cried, stumbling backwards into the room and reaching up to rub at her now throbbing forehead. "What in Merlin's name--" she began, moving back towards the window when yet another rock flew towards her, this time narrowly missing her head and crashing into a vase on her bookshelf. "Oi! Stop that!" Lily cried, anger taking over and causing her to march towards the window with a determined look, wand at the ready.
As she reached it and leaned out, ready to hex whoever was pelting her with rocks, she heard the door handle jiggle behind her and quickly moved back inside and over towards the vase just in time to hear her dad inquire as to what caused all the noise. "Sorry," she muttered quickly, offering him a sheepish smile as she looked down at the shattered vase. "Got a bit caught up and bumped the bookshelf. Don't worry. I'll clean it up." She continued, quite relieved when it seemed to satiate her father, prompting him to press a kiss to her still sore forehead and offer her a soft "goodnight" before leaving.
Once she was sure he was back in his room across the hall, Lily moved back over to the window and leaned out just in time to see Sirius Black and James Potter stumbling through her mother's begonias. "Oi, you two broomheads! Get out of my backyard." She hissed sharply, not wanting to wake up her father again but not wanting them to yell out that they couldn't hear her either. "Oh, and you owe me a new vase. I thought you were supposed to be good at aiming, being Quidditch stars and all."
