I think it may be because japan is near the southern hemisphere so the seasons are slightly different? I know the school year starts around march/april. (I should really know more since im moving to japan soon lmao…)
Ah, Japan's seasons are actually fairly similar to European/North American ones! It looks further south on a map but it's on the same latitude as California and Spain in parts, and goes as far north as Oregon/northern Italy. It does get a rainy season we don't get, though, before summer. (Sorry, I really love climate stuff so when I read this reply I was like LET ME TELL YOU EVERYTHING I KNOW hahaha). It gets pretty cold there in winter (even at more southernly latitudes) so there must be something going on ocean currents wise that is either cooling Japan or warming California/Spain.
Also yep, school starts in April! I just read (while trying to figure all this out) that graduation is in March, and I know there's a break between them but I don't think it's more than a week or two. It's super cool that you're going there! You should tell me about it! If you... feel like it... haha.
