The world of astro photography is very much a learning curve. When I first started I had no clue as to what I was doing, but as soon as I started to be a little more comfortable in the settings I needed to use, I was keen to get out when there was clear sky. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One particular evening I convinced the boy to drive me down to Little Bay to shoot the Milky Way. Little did I realise that the Milky Way changes positions depending on the time of year. So when I’d shot down there a couple weeks prior the Milky Way was over the ocean, so on this occasion I assumed the same. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Well I was wrong and the Milky Way was sitting right above the houses & golf course. Street lights & flood lights. With the airport, port botany & the light from the city also not to far in the distance, I had way too much light pollution to be shooting astro. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So the trip wasn’t in vain (and to save face with the boy) I spent about 30mins taking some shots anyways. But in order to see some of the Milky Way, I feel like I had to edit this image within an inch of its life. Did I pull it off? Maybe yes, maybe no, I’ll let you guys decide. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve still got a long way to go before mastering astro, but I wanted to share this with all anyways. Some mistakes are funny but you can always learn from from them! I now understand why some photos take years of planning achieve and I’m slowly trying to wrap my head around apps like @photopills Here on the east coast of Australia, us togs got the bulk of the 2021 astro season taken from us.
