🎃 favorite holiday and 💢 what frustrates them
What is your character’s favorite holiday?
Back in Muspell, Laevatein never celebrated any holiday traditions in particular. She knew of them vaguely from the other countries they invaded, and there were pockets of civilians in Muspell who celebrated holidays, but obviously she wasn’t really included in that.
All the holidays she’s experienced have been through the Order of Heroes and their festivals. Personally her favorite holiday was the New Year’s celebration she was able to experience with her sister and the Nifl siblings, wearing pretty clothes and enjoying the quietude of visiting a shrine. Since she was able to pick an outfit that suited her, she was more comfortable than she otherwise would have been. (One look at Loki during the Spring Festival and she hightailed it out of there.)
I think Laevatein would enjoy learning about the traditions behind every new holiday. She’s not a party person, and she doesn’t understand the value of dressing in gaudy and uncomfortable clothes, but she’d find something new and interesting with each holiday. And since some of the festivals have friendly competitions that are trials by combat, I think she’d find her place amongst those who would rather spar than dress up, and ultimately have fun.
What frustrates your character more than anything?
I’d say what frustrates her the most is emotional illiteracy – the feeling of going to another country where you can’t speak the language and feel isolated, only in this case it’s because she struggles to relate to her comrades. I think Laevatein would tend to get jealous of people who can interact with anyone with ease, though she wouldn’t immediately know she’s jealous because envy isn’t really compatible with her self image? That too would frustrate her, feeling some kind of vague emotion but not being able to place it. I’m moody and I don’t know why – and she would feel like she should know, but then just get stuck in a cycle of feeling vaguely bad about herself.
And I don’t picture her getting angry frustrated per se, just kind of glum? Which in turn kind of gives off that “don’t talk to me” vibe, and if people stayed away from her it would probably make her feel worse.
Luckily she’s surrounded by people nowadays who know when she’s obviously struggling and would help her kindly though some of those things.
