Six Makeup: Masterpost and Links

Hey y'all! Finally finished up a long promised post: all of my makeup suggestions for SIX cosplayers (and/or fans who just want to do some cool makeup looks)!!! I've been actively working on this post for about a year now and compiling makeup for even longer, so I'm happy to finally finish it. I'll get into more details in a moment, but first things first:

I'll include all the links below, but for easy access I made a handy-dandy Pinterest board. It is sorted by costume (sections for each queen + alt costume) and you can clink on any pin to be taken directly to buy it. I would recommend that people look there for a more visual/easy look at the recommendations; I realize pure text can get a bit old!

Some notes: - All of these links are to US sites, with a variety of US and UK sources. Most of these brands ship internationally and/or are available on Amazon as well. - I tried to factor in a large variety of material colors/shades, skin tones, and financial budget. You'll find a mix of US and UK-based brands, mainstream and smaller brands, drugstore versus more upscale, and some brands owned by women of color. - There's a broad range in the companies listed in terms of their ethics, animal testing, politics, etc. I'm including as many companies as possible to give people as many options as possible, but some of these I wouldn't personally financially support. I would strongly suggest that anyone do their own research into the brands listed. - Many of these products may be harsher on skin than your typical products. I'd suggest considering any potential allergens and skin testing any product before use, and using your regular base (foundation, blush, etc) to minimize the number of new products. (If you have sensitive skin or are worried about toxicity, I'd suggest Skin Deep for toxicity information and the FDA site for information on common irritants) - The vast majority of the makeup on this list is products that I know Six actors use. However, just because someone in Six uses it does not mean it's necessary to achieve a great look - there are many great alternatives for just about any product, and what works for a specific actor may not be what works best for you. (I'd also note that the vast majority of queens use some fairly cheap makeup, so you never need to feel like you have to pay more to get "stage accuracy") - Factor in where you're intending to use your products. Six uses some extreme stage makeup and truly crazy lighting; if you use these products with the exact same intensity in just about any other context, it will be way overkill. Convention lighting tends to be harsh so you can usually go a bit heavier there, particularly if you're intending to do any on-stage performances. But for everyday use or a closet cosplay to go see Six or an outdoor meet-up with natural light you will usually want to go much softer. (Photoshoots are a whole other can of worms and really depend on specifics) - Some of this information is taken from a series of Instagram stories Erin Ramirez did. I'm still writing up a post of everything she suggested, but I'll link it here when finished. - And, finally, have fun experimenting and finding what works for you!

IRL Sixsona Designs Pt. 2: Makeup Edition

Hey y'all! This is second in a series of a few extra sixsona posts that @lightleckrereins and I are doing this week. The first post is here, showing the real-life vinyl inspirations we used!

This time around, I'm doing yet another hypothetical: what makeup would be used for each sixsona design!! My list of makeup recommendations for Six cosplayers is probably the post I'm second-most proud of (after sixsonas ofc). When I was initially working on that I kept seeing makeup that would be perfect for some of our sixsona designs, so because I have absolutely zero chill of course I had to figure out the full makeup plots for each.

The basic rules were - one glitter - one eyeshadow palette - and two additional products to fill in any gaps, as needed (this included fun stuff like an extra glitter or liquid liner, but also practical things like additional eyeshadow shades when needed or a liquid base for more sheer colors)

this is not really important at all lol but i remembered you saying in the post about the new west end alts how hannah had 2 pink glitters and everyone else has only gotten one and inez showed she actually has (at least) 3 pink glitters on her instagram takeover today!

Yeah, they all get additional glitters as time goes on! Particularly true for Howards because there are so many pink options on the market, and particularly true for non-white actors as they try to figure out the right shade. Most of them have wound up having 3-4+, just out of the ones Six has provided them (and many have added more out of their own budget or stipend). They usually get started out with one at the start of tech and then more will be added pretty quickly if needed.

The relevancy of the glitters to alt costumes is specifically that both alts got three in clearly defined principal and alt colors: Naomi green/red/orange, and Hannah hot pink/dark blue/light pink. Hannah also got the three lipsticks including the typical Howard, Parr, and pink alt colors. Those were all in the original start of tech bags. None of that is to say that Hannah couldn't use her light pink glitter for Howard AND pink alt, and I actually expect that that was part of the intent considering her palettes are very easily able to be used for both Howard and pink alt (just like Naomi's can be used for all three). But it's the inclusion of exactly three (as opposed to uniformly 1 for each principal or 2 for each) + one of each actor's three being a clear alt color, particularly noting Naomi having orange since that cannot be explained by either of her principal costumes.

PALETTES Note on brands Most of the North American queens use Juvia's Place at this point. It is a Black-owned brand that Six initially added to help create more options for queens of color, but by now most queens use it regardless of race. As of Oct 2023, most of their palettes are on-sale. Most of the UK queens use Makeup Revolution palettes, although there's quite a bit more range in which they use and some other brands in the mix.

Face Sparkles ($2) Colors: Green (Boleyn), White/Crystal (Seymour), Red (Cleves), Pastel Pink or Glow Pink (Howard), Blue (Parr), White/Crystal/Black (silver/black alt), Glow Blue (teal alt), Orange or Glow Orange (orange alt), Pastel Pink (pink alt) - Many of the mainland US actors use these. Keep in mind that these require a glue to apply.

Makeup Rhinestones from Amazon ($10) - I’ve seen a few of the alts use this set or a similar one. The glue is included. Has colors for all principal costumes and potentially all alt, although it depends on your preferences.

Six Makeup: Details from Erin Ramirez's Story

I made a post compiling makeup information from the queens across productions and queens, which you can find here. ----------- After leaving Six, Erin Ramirez did a series of Instagram stories talking through some of the makeup she used while in Six. I compiled that information into this post. Couple notes: - All of these links are to US sites/sellers. I don't know about brand/product availability outside of the US. - The availability of some of these products might differ now. - I'm listing Erin's recommendations as she said them (note that this is paraphrased). But know that not every product will work for everyone, due to coloring or ingredients/formulation. Do your due diligence on what will work for you and individual companies/products/allergens before buying. - And, as always: This is what Erin and some other Six queens use. That does not mean it's what anyone else need to use. Many are expensive and you can typically find cheaper dupes. They're also used for stage makeup and may not translate well to normal lighting or convention stages. The colors may match Erin's costumes but not the materials any given cosplayer is using. Again, it's up to you to determine what works best for you.

GLITTER EYESHADOWS

Lemonhead Space Paste Colors: Viper (green/Boleyn), Wonderland (pink/Howard), Malibu (blue/Parr) - Erin said: These are a paste. Because of the consistency they need to be applied in thinner layers. You have to play around to get to the right application process. - They're the brightest and best glitters for stage out of what she has. - These glitters were given to the Aragon Tour cast by Six while they were performing in Boston.

Designer Dust Co. Face Sprinkles Colors: Emerald City Skyline (green/Boleyn), either Bubblegum Bae or Disco Pants (pink/Howard), Blue Fly Skies (blue/Parr) - These are not as bright onstage as the Lemonhead, but Erin said they are easier to apply (smaller chunks/less pasty). - One of Erin's glitters dried out, but you can spray setting spray in the package to reactivate them. - Erin suggested that the company's glue and silicone applicators be used in tandem with the face sprinkles (more details below).

MAC Glitter Colors: Silver (Platinum, neutral used for all queens), Emerald (Boleyn), Rose (Howard), Cerulean (Parr) - Note: These are slowly being phased out and the colors Six has historically used are either no longer available or have been renamed. Some of them do currently exist in the MAC Pigment which is a similar product. - This is a loose glitter rather than a paste and tend sto have bad fallout. Erin suggests doing eye makeup before the rest of your makeup if you're using it and/or using eyeshadow tape. - These glitters were given to the actors by Six.

NYX Metallic Glitter Color: Beauty Beam (all) - Erin used this on her inner corner for all queens. She said it looks pink in package but looks neutral when worn.

KVD Dazzle Eyeshadow Stick Color: Green Flash (Boleyn) - Erin said this was too mellow for onstage, but she found it easy to apply and great for a night out.

OTHER EYESHADOWS/LINERS

Beauty Creations Dare to be Bright eyeshadow palette Colors: Boujee (green/Boleyn), Bomb af (pink/Howard) - These are no longer sold directly/individually by Beauty Creations. - You can buy the green from Beauty Creations in a pack with other products or individually from Beaute and Hoot. - You can buy the pink on from Beauty Creations in a pack with other products or individually from Amazon. - There are other sources for both of those eyeshadows, I just linked the first few options. - She said the only issue was that these could lean neon under stage lights.

MAC Dazzleshadow Extreme Colors: Celebutante (Howard). Erin also had blue and green but didn't mention those shades that I heard. The green may be Joie de Glitz. I don't think the blue shade is still sold.

Maybelline Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil Colors: Erin just said she had pink and turquoise. I'm not sure on the shades. - She liked these for detailed designs.

Haus Labs Hy-Power Pigment Paint Colors: fuchsia matte (Howard)

CRYSTALS

Designer Dust Co. Face Sparkles Colors (presumable, Erin did not specify these): Green (Boleyn), Glow Pink (Howard), Blue (Parr)

LIPSTICK AND LIPLINERS

MAC Lip Liner Color: Talking Points (Howard)

Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Color: Uncensored (Boleyn), Unlocked (Howard) - Erin said she liked these because it created clean lines and was long lasting.

ACCESSORIES

Designer Dust Co. Glue - Erin suggested that this be used with the Designer Dust Co face sprinkles, although I suspect it could be used to similar effect with some of the others. She said this was helpful for easy removal as it allowed the eye look to be peeled off in one go.

NYX Glitter Primer - Erin said this is what was provided to the actors by Six. Was used with MAC and possibly others.

Designer Dust Co. Silicone Applicators - Erin suggested using these with the Designer Dust Co sprinkles. She said they can be used to smear the glitters on "like a spatula." - She also mentioned the liner applicators specifically.

SIX MAKEUP: GLITTERS AND SHIMMERS

This post includes both glitters and lighter shimmers. If you have a question on which is which, you can look up product swatches or send me an ask. Some of these products may be safer than others. The use of glitter in makeup is unregulated in the US and there's minimal oversight, but rules change depending on the country (I know the EU has stricter regulations but not sure on other countries). Some products listed have a glitter comprised of large plastic glitter chunks, while some have a shimmer just from mica and similar minerals; the mica-based won't be any different than most eyeshadows in terms of safety, but the chunkier glitters can be more complex. When buying a chunky glitter eyeshadow with chunky glitter note these good practices: - Glitters comprised of hexagon-shaped pieces are generally safer. - When using a loose glitter, use an eyeshadow glue and make sure that you use little enough that it's all safely stuck to your eyelids. - and I wouldn't encourage use if you'll be wearing the makeup look outside in the rain. - There's some additional safety information in the first reply on this thread, including application and removal info.

Some of these colors may glow under blacklight. I generally tried not to include ones that do, but I haven't personally used all of these and cannot always confirm what does or does not.

PASTES WITH GLITTER CHUNKS These do not require a glue unless otherwise noted. They are a larger chunkier glitter.

Lemonhead Spacepaste ($22) Colors: Starstruck or Gildebeast (Aragon), Viper or Jailbait (Boleyn), Silverlake or Discotech or Groupie (Seymour), Roosevelt (Cleves), Wonderland or Lovesick or Violet Hour or Wine Safari (Howard), Malibu or Bungalow (Parr), Silverlake or Discotech or Groupie (black alt/silver alt), Private School (teal alt), Dirty Penny (orange alt), Birthday Bitch (pink alt) - Personal rec: I love this glitter! It dries quickly, stays well, has a lot of bang for your buck, and looks great. Because of the drying time and larger glitter chunks, there's a bit of a learning curve so I'd suggest playing around with it in advance of any cosplay events. You also need a good silicone applicator. I bought it on a good sale and I'd definitely encourage that as it's more pricey. - These glitters are a hexagonal shape. - These glitters were provided to most of the queens in the mainland North American and some UK productions for the last few casts. They seem to be the go-to glitters for most casts.

Lemonhead Spacejam ($26) Colors: Rainbow Road (Aragon), White Rabbit or Interstella (Seymour), White Rabbit (black alt), Interstella (silver alt) - These are the same brand as the one before, but a different formula. - These glitters are mostly hexagonal, but some colors have some larger chunks in different shapes.

Designer Dust Co. Face Sprinkles ($10) Colors: I know some of the queens themselves have used Lights Out micro (gold/Aragon), Emerald City Skyline (green/Boleyn), Mirror Mirror (silver/Seymour), Dorothy's Red Bottom (red/Cleves), Bubblegum Bae and Disco Pants (pink/Howard), Blue Fly Skies (blue/Parr). The company has also created folders of the different glitters they suggest for the queens: Aragon, Boleyn, Seymour, Cleves, Howard, Parr. For alternate costumes, I'd look into silver although you could do black (black alt); silver and white (silver alt); Blue Fly Skies, Carolina Bae, Water Country Flakes (teal alt); C U Later, Electric Clementine, Hot Tamale, or general orange (orange alt); Baby Sparkles, Call You Mine, Erase Her, Piano Bar or general pinks (pink alt). - Erin said: these are easier to apply (smaller chunks/less pasty) than Lemonhead and suggested that the company's glue and silicone applicators be used in tandem with the face sprinkles (more details below). - These have a variety of glitter shapes. - These glitters were given to many of the US and UK queens by the company themselves.

Slayfire Cosmetics ($7-14) Colors: Golden Age (Aragon), Slither (Boleyn), Silver Tongue or Disco Dynasty (Seymour), Redrum (Cleves), Love Potion glitter gel (Howard), Majesty or Atlantis (Parr); Sabbath (black alt), Silver Tongue or Disco Dynasty (silver alt), Atlantis (teal alt), Rosebud (orange alt) - Some have an option of both glitter gel and loose glitter. For the paste style that doesn't require glue, choose the glitter gel. - Some of the North American actors have used these. They're a WOC-owned company and many of their colors will be particularly flattering on non-white skin tones.

CREAM/LIQUID GLITTERS/SHIMMERS These do not require a glue unless otherwise noted. They generally do not include large glitter chunks.

ELF Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow ($6) Colors: 24k Gold (Aragon), Bling Bling or Disco Queen (black/silver/Seymour, although I've seen several other queens use it as highlight), Ocean Eyes (Parr) - Personal rec: Good color payoff. You need an eyeshadow base underneath. - Many of the UK queens use this.

NYX Liquid Eyeshadow ($11) Colors: Lemon Slayed or Glitzy Guava (Aragon), Kiwi Killa or Watermelon Wealth (Boleyn), Come Thru Coconut (Seymour), Raspberry Rave or Strawberry Stacked (Howard), Blueberry Bank (Parr), Come Thru Coconut (black alt/silver alt),  Grapefruit Glow (pink alt)  - Many of the UK queens use this and seem to have great color payoff.

Nicka K Radiant Liquid Eyeshadow ($3) Colors: Golden Gemma (Aragon), Marineblue Sparkle (teal alt)

With Love Pigments ($12) Colors: Temptation (Boleyn), Fame or Cotton Candy (Howard), Blush or Fairy Dust (pink alt) - The West End now primarily uses this brand. They are a smoother, more metallic finish than the glitters above from the same brand.

MAC Dazzleshadow Extreme ($24) Colors: Kiss of Klimt (Aragon), Joie de Glitz (Boleyn), Discotheque (Seymour), Celebutante (Howard), Discotheque (black/silver alt)

MAC Dazzleshadow ($24) Colors: It's All About Shine (Seymour), Last Dance (Howard highlight), It's All About Shine (black/silver alt), Last Dance (pink)

LOOSE GLITTERS Six originally used loose glitters, but has been phasing them out. They all require a glue for application (more info at the bottom of this post).

MAC Glitter ($13) Colors: Very Pink (Howard) - These glitters were given to the actors by Six. The production has used these and other MAC since effectively the first West End cast, but have started to phase them out in the last year or two.

MAC Pigment ($18-25) Colors: Gold (Aragon), Rose (Howard), Copper Sparkle (orange alt), Kitschmas (pink alt) - Same as the MAC glitter.

NYX Face & Body Glitter ($6.50) Colors: Crystal (neutral/general), Gold (Aragon), Ice or silver (Seymour), Rose (Howard), Blue (Parr), Silver (black and silver alt), Teal (teal alt), Rose (pink alt)

NYX Metallic Glitter ($6.50) Color: Beauty Beam (Howard highlight, pink alt), Darkside (Parr) - Six has been phasing these out, but the pink is still commonly used as highlight and the blue still seems to be used by some UK Parrs.

Covar Beauty Loose Glitter ($4) Colors: Goal Digger, Mardi Gras, Gold Rush (Aragon); Pixie (Boleyn); Bling Bling, Blackhole, Talent, Shady (Seymour/black alt/silver alt); Rebel Girl, Work B*tch, Life of the Party, Go Bestie, Like Totally, Queen Tingz (Howard); Pity Party (Parr); Pity Party, Lucky (teal alt); Winning, Maneater, Fifth Element (orange alt); Queen Tingz, Go Bestie, Amor Prohibido (pink alt) - Some of the Broadway cast uses this brand.

CREAM GLITTER PALETTES

Nicka K 12-Color Glitter Palette ($7) - the ESGL01 option is a 12-color palette with at least one great glitter color option for every costume, both principal and alternate. - the ESGL02 option is a 12-color palette with good options for Aragon, Seymour, Howard, black alt, silver alt, pink alt.

NYX Glitter Palette ($25) - This has good colors for a few queens and some fun ones beside.

Nicka K 5-Color Glitter Palette ($5) Colors: Love Sparks (a few Howard + single Cleves + single orange alt); Starry Night (two Aragon options + two teal alt or Parr); Medallist (options for Aragon, Seymour, black alt, silver alt); Electro Pop (two Seymour options, two teal alt options, one Parr, and a possible Howard depending on your skin tone and material colors)

GLITTER ACCESSORIES

Designer Dust Co. Glue - Erin suggested that this be used with the Designer Dust Co face sprinkles, although I suspect it could be used to similar effect with some of the others. She said this was helpful for easy removal as it allowed the eye look to be peeled off in one go.

NYX Glitter Primer - Erin said this is what was provided to the actors by Six. Both US and UK usually use this with the MAC and NYX glitters.

Designer Dust Co. Silicone Applicators - Erin suggested using these with the Designer Dust Co sprinkles. She said they can be used to smear the glitters on "like a spatula." - She also mentioned the liner applicators specifically.
