˗ˏˋ ´ˎ˗ the bachelors + winter ... !
note: literally just found this in my drafts
mittens + harvey… harvey pressed the knitted wool mittens against his cheeks. his nose, tipped with red, and his rosy cheeks flushed with color against the white blanket of the valley. he rubbed his ear lobes with gentle circles of his thumb. the snow always falls silently on the valley— maybe lulled to sleep by the calm wind of pelican town. winter had always made harvey drowsy, too, as he let his eyelids gently fall. small snowflakes decorated his eyebrows and facial hair like stars against a dark sky. the farmer reached up to gently wipe off his face, as delicately as if he were made of glass.
hot chocolate + elliott… he tapped against the kitchen counter with the point of his finger, always caught in the unconscious tune of a sonata. after pouring the hot chocolate mix in both mugs, he gently pulled out a spoon, twirling it around the ceramic. the cups warmed his hands as he walked over to the couch with a big smile, gently setting both down on the table. he sat in silence as he watched the fire, contently listening to it crack while the wind cradled the farmhouse.
snowman + shane… there is an ache that comes with responsibility, but on rare occasions— there is opportunity. where he used to see it as a curse, he now can see it as another chance. his gloves patted against the snow, packing it in to keep its structure. he looks at the farmer, then down at jas, wide eyed with the magic of innocence and wonder. shane had lost that gift long ago, but with the snowman staring back at him, he knows that after winter comes new beginnings. maybe now that he could relive his childhood, he can do it right this time.
ice skating + sebastian… how he was successfully convinced to participate— he had no idea. but that was a worry for later, when he was snuggled up in bed in the warmth of the basement. his worry for now: not looking like an idiot. it seemed everyone around him had mastered the skill of skating, as if the world had teamed up against him behind his back. he wobbled, bracing his arms for a stumble. two arms snaked around his and tightened their hold, pulling him to straighten him out. it was too cold to even mumble a thank you. he’d have to remember to tell the farmer later.
baking + alex… he scrunched his nose, frustrated with his attempt to read such small print from far away. as the farmer reads the recipe aloud once more, alex throws his head back and groans. he sifts through the ingredients, the measuring cups, and then the utensils. he was right, he really can’t bake. as he reread the recipe for the umpteenth time, the farmer placed their hand on the spread of his back, gently rubbing it in silent reassurance. after a few moments of silence, alex returned to the mixing bowl with the same confident boasting he had each time before that.
snow angels + sam… when the farmer found sam, he was already lying in the snow bank. upon questioning, he let out a quiet laugh and rolled his eyes. even though he prompted the farmer to join him, they refused. sam had never been one to go out without a fight, and after a quick pull of the farmer’s wrist— they tumbled on top of him. he prompted to make snow angels with them once more. he laughed. what’s the harm in it? you’re already down here. his boyish charm was hard to resist. even when lying in the snow, it's hard to not admire his warm smile.
