SJ Day 2016: Chicago
Valentine’s Day / SJ’s birthday trip to Chicago. We left on Friday afternoon after SJ’s operative mannikin class. Took a cab, train, and plane to get there! When we got to Chicago it was as cold as we expected. Took the L train to the hotel and checked in. The Westin Michigan Avenue. It was a very nice hotel except for all the random teenagers whom we agreed were 24/7 loitering in the lobby. They were there literally every time we were in the lobby. SJ and I also both agreed the hotel bed was not as soft or comfy as our own beds, although the king size was amazing! Hahaha! Dinner Friday at Girl and the Goat. Quite delicious! Highlights: Olive You Bread, Chick Pea Fritters, and Roasted Pork Shank. Saturday we slept in :) and woke up for Chicago Style hot dogs at Portillo’s. Delicious. Not sure if it was because we were hungry or what. Then we walked to the Bean to take photos. It was super cold. My phone died at 80% trying to take a selfie (with a selfie stick that Daniel and Vi got us!) Then the Chicago Art Institute. Basically, “The Quest to find American Gothic with some miniature rooms that we found.” SJ is always right. How? She knew it was up the stairs and makes fun of me with a baby face because I didn’t want to go up there... mean! Then the Willis Tower. Too many lines and so we just had to make it wort it with another selfie. Selfies make it all worth it. Selfies with our ghetto but efficient iPhone light setup. Then we had dinner at Blackbird because Avec (which Sabrina suggested) was closed. Once again, SJ’s meal (pork belly) was better hahaha! -__- Then we watched Deadpool. It was awesome but very gruesome. Sunday we had brunch at Gather for SJ’s birthday. It was so good! Especially SJ’s biscuit and gravy. Once again... I had Eggs Benedict. Anyways, this is when it started snowing a bunch and we were getting scared if it would delay our flight. Spoiler alert: it did. Actually our flight was canceled and we spent the night at Midway Airport. Which I kind of regret because I think SJ was not comfortable and could not sleep at all. But I sort of don’t regret it because I really had a blast just hanging out with SJ on our makeshift sofa bed, passing our “flask” back and forth and daydreaming about our wedding and whoo we’ll invite and what kind of chairs to have and such. And just enjoying each other’s company to the fullest. I really think it was a blessing in disguise because I loved it so much. I felt so close to SJ and the canceled flight didn’t really seem like a canceled flight. The whole time I was thinking, “Shouldn’t I be more stressed about this whole situation?” But it as so fun. Everything is, with her. I love SJ so much. And that was our Valentine’s 2016 trip! PS. My own bed felt AMAZING after all this.
