So I've been sitting on 12 years of skateboarding photos for a decade now, and this week something gave me an itch to start scanning & posting images from that time period of my life. A few friends of mine- @jacobrosenberg @mfrazier72 @nealhendrix @mehringsbearings @jgrantbrittain inspired me to take a moment remember what makes skateboarding so unique at its core. There's no wrong way to be a skateboarder, everyone starts out skating because they love it, and once you land that first trick, they're hooked. I have trouble thinking of anything that's quite like that feeling. Anyhow, I linked up with my talented friend, and fellow skateboard photographer Jonathan Mehring @mehringsbearings with an idea of how to show some of this hidden gems. I thought it would be rad to show different skaters from different eras doing the same tricks. For the most part tricks are the same as they've always been, it's just that the way they're applied and that how style is expressed is a huge factor in showing the individualism of this thing called skateboarding. So here's how it works. Jonathan and I will be posting one-for-one photos from our archives, some old, some new, but the tricks will be the same. This particular photo shot in Barcelona in 2001 is of a good friend of mine- @strutang and was an alternative angle to a photo of an Ollie that ran on the cover of #transworldskateboarding in early 2002. Follow #sk8evolution and @mehringsbearings there will be great photos coming (hopefully) each day. Thanks for checking this out. #skateboarding #skatearchives #petethompsonphotography @cortizphoto #justinstrubing #skateboarder #barcelona #ollie (at barcelona)
