As part of making this book about skateboarding in the 90’s, I was lucky enough to reconnect with @tonyhawk for a quick interview. Last time I saw his son @rileyhawk was in 1996 when he was 4yrs old. Kenny Hughes | SF | 1996 . . . This trip to SF was definitely memorable. Kenny killed a handful of staple SF spots, and to our disbelief, less than 24 hours after Kenny did whichever crazy trick, we would be at the pier or @ftc_skateboarding and everyone we ran into already knew about it - this was before the internet and cellphones. For this feeble, he rolled away from it just after dusk. More than any other skate photographer, @jgrantbrittain was the most influential creative force in my career. A truly humble guy with a quirky sense of humor that I always appreciated, and someone I’m so fortune to call a friend for all these years. There’s a great little documentary that the guys over at @palomarfilms put together (also on @transworldskate ) that does a really great job showcasing his journey, his contribution to skateboarding and his pure love for photography ♥️ Thanks for being such a rad person to look up to and learn from Grant! 🙌🏽 . . Stevie Williams | Las Vegas | July 2019 . . . Had a chance to reconnect with Stevie this week. We first met in Philly in 1993 when he was 14. Stevie was always down to let me take portraits of him and it kinda felt like every frame spoke to an unapologetic, authentic moment in his life. Looking back, the images we shot both of skating and non-skating are some of my favorites. So much has changed, but at his core, he’s pretty much the same guy. Humble, thoughtful and thankful.
