9 March - We arrived in St Helens last night - for some reason I'd thought it would be a good idea to book into the Big 4 Holiday Camp. It wasn't. However, St Helens itself is great and we had a fabulous Indian meal at Punj Aab's which raised our spirits. So, this morning we started at The Quail Street Emporium for a lovely, simple breakfast of poached eggs on toast then headed off to Skeleton Bay and Skeleton Point. The colours all along the Bay of Fires are incredible and we were lucky enough to be there on a glorious day - blue sky, turquoise sea, white sand and the fiery orange of the lichen on the rocks. Simply incredible - definitely up with the best beaches we've seen anywhere on our trip. We had oysters at the Captain's Catch by St Helens harbour and then, incredibly, managed supper at Mohr & Smith - a great bistro in the town.
