Jesse had been sleeping, his eyes fluttering from one side to another in a hellish nightmare; reliving the horror of the war and loosing his own parents. He jumped when he heard the creaking doors open and he rattled his tail, fur on end as he stood and spun to face his own closed door.

“just…just a dream…” he rumbled before he heard the squeak again. He frowned and padded as quietly as possible toward the hallway. His ears were folded back and he walked toward the balcony overlooking the foyer.
