Testing out a couple of brushes - a silver black velvet and a water brush. I still prefer an actual brush but water brush is convenient when one is on the go. #sketchingnowfoundations #sketchbookpeople #watercolortools

There have been limited updates here because working through Liz Steel's Foundations course has been challenging - lots of wonky and bumpy lines. Here is her exercise on constructing volumes. The prompt was to stack up a couple of books and work on the intersections etc. So hard! #sketchingnowfoundations #bookstagram #thisisharderthanithoughtitwouldbe #wonkylines
Working through some #sketchingnowfoundations exercises on understanding your tools. After doing this exercise, I think I may have to ditch the mechanical pencil for sketching. It does not give much line variation. It was great for drawing calligraphy grids though. ๐ I am sticking with the cheap Pilot fountain pen though. At least I am not worried about misplacing it or abusing it a little. #sketchingtools #sketchbookpeople
For this month I am going to work on some architecture sketching. I did a day's workshop last year as I am really in awe of anyone who can complete a sketch in minutes. This month I will be following along with Liz Steel's #sketchingnowfoundations course in the hope of working towards some competency.... ๐ She emphasises getting to know your materials, something that I am very lax with doing. I generally pick up an implement and charge ahead. Do you know that I have never done a one of those meticulous and pretty paint charts that you see so frequently on IG? I don't think I have the patience for that. Half the time I squeeze the paint into a pallet, gauge its colour and have a go at it. ๐๐ So this is the first time I will be having a better look at my materials and even though I probably will not be painting out a chart, I hope to have a better understanding of them. ๐ I am looking at this as a time to take a step back before moving forward again. #watercolorpalette
