Sam always loved spring the best. In truth autumn was his favorite season, but spring was when Dean was the happiest, and that made him happy. He loved watching the sun shine and warm Dean's freckled tan skin, loved seeing the Alpha spend more and more time outside with Baby, fixing her and giving her the loving attention that he'd probably be giving an Omega if the cards had played out differently. Temperatures rise, and life begins again. So when the day dawns bright and he and Dean are off to see a witness for a case, Sam's feeling happy. He makes coffee for his brother and gets dressed, today in some boring looking suit. It wasn't like this before Sam left for college, he didn't think. Some days it's hard to remember. With their Dad they didn't speak too much to victims or witnesses, that was more John's job. Sam would research, and Dean was the best at ganking the son of a bitch. A father and his two Alpha sons, that was the family business.

Dean was quiet on the trip over to the warehouse, but Sam didn't mind. Even though it'd been a year since his life had turned upside down and he'd been hunting again, he still had to think out what he was going to say. The witness ended up being a middle-aged Alpha woman who didn't have much to say that wasn't an advance on Dean. Sam bit the inside of his cheek in annoyance but kept trying to focus the conversation towards what she had seen. They were in the middle of god knows where, some boring little town and Sam wasn't even really sure where this case was going to turn, if one really existed, but in the bright sunshine next to his brother he couldn't say he minded too much. The woman drawled again in her boring story while looking Dean over like a piece of meat (and how much sense did that make anyway? Alphas could never bond together) and Sam couldn't even look at her anymore. Irritated, he flipped his bangs with a jerk of the chin and looked over at Dean.

The 27 year old was a little paler than usual, and not really paying much attention. He looked ill, even more so than he had this morning. Sam knew it was about his time to be going through an Alpha heat, or his "time of the month" as Sam usually called it with a snicker. But it was never bad for Alphas, just a few days of being extremely horny and needing to fuck something. An omega, ideally, but in this stage Alphas would accept betas, those who didn't have a status, and in extreme cases pretty much anything that moved. Idly Sam wondered if Dean had caught some sort of stomach bug that was making him sick while this little heat had come along.
