⚠️ shaper geek post. Depth of cut adjustment on the fly is just best on a Skil to me. Of course the same applies for the Accurate planer owners as well. #skil100 (at Capistrano Beach, California)

Warning ⚠️ shaper geek post 🤓. ••• These are both #Skil100 planers. They both are extinct in the wild (tool stores). There is only a well cared for captive population in private zoos (surfboard shaping rooms and maybe the odd door hanger dudes box of tricks). These two cutters are different though... I’ll compare them to my two vehicles. We (@sosingmysoul and I) *includes @martinsmakings too! own and old manual everything 4 wheel drive Toyota Tacoma.. this is like the planer on the left. Easy on the fuel, goes everywhere, reliable and does what you ask it to do. We also own a 1st generation Cummins diesel Dodge D350 (@saffronsunday is currently operating it while I fix Carlitos head). The planer on the right is like the one ton Dodge diesel. More or less does what the Tacoma does but you can chain up your house and drag it with you 💪😂. The one on the right has RPM and TORQUE for days. Stay tuned for a French Balsa board shape coming up. shaper GEEK post 🤓 ••• so I could be wrong but it seems like surfboard foam is evolving over time. For whatever reason most brands foam seems to tear quite easily under a hand held planer. @usblanks will be exempt from this observation as their foam is real planer friendly. My guess is that with most surfboards produced via machine shaping them on a cnc machine it isn’t much of an issue with tearing complaints coming from the shapers. I’ve shaped one US Blank and one old Clark Foam blank while here in France. Shaped up like a dream under the Skil. The Burford foam that comprises the bulk of the rest of the foam here is super great stuff! It finishes out really nice and seems very consistent and strong. It also tears like a son of a gun when being planed. I have to go SUPER slow. That’s ok.. @renaudcardinal found me some RAZOR sharp solid tungsten carbide replacement blades to stick in my Skil 🙏 cuts the Burford WAY better. These are an odd little kind of blade to have in a Skil. Only the last few Type 5 Skils came with them and the ones I get at home are butter knife sharp compared to these over here. Stoked for the ability to adapt and CONQUER 💪💨 and for my Type 5 #skil100 (at Angoulins, France)
