I’ve just learned Morse Code in 3 days.
Why yes, I am procrastinating. How could you tell?
Back in October I decided to knit everybody socks for Christmas, and I’d only ever made one pair of socks before (and they didn’t fit the intended recipient - though I quite enjoy them and wear them all the time). I told myself, it’s fine, if the first pair or two turn out an odd size they’re sure to still fit someone, and by the time I’m done with all 5-to-9 pairs I’ll surely be good at socks.
I felt a little foolhardy at the time, but EVERYBODY’s socks fit them correctly (I made them all try them on immediately after opening them). And I really do feel like I know how to make socks now! I feel confident about socks. Which reinforces my experiences with bread, which can be summed up as follows:
If you want to get good at something, just do it a lot. Some of your first efforts might not be great, but do it more, and more after that, and soon you’ll turn around and go, oh, I’m good at this. This is easy now.
