Fatness is a luxury only few could afford.
After the fall of the global market, people starved. Food became scarce, or if it wasn’t scarce it was expensive. The droughts and the flooding made it impossible for most to grow their own food, and agriculture across the world was at an all time low.
Thinness very quickly fell out of fashion, mostly because those who could afford the fashion found that having and eating an excess of food was the only way to flaunt their money.
Beacon Hills was a town like any other. There was one family that managed to escape the hardship that had befallen everyone else in the area: the Hales. Led by their mother Talia, the Hale siblings were among the richest folks in the state, let alone the country at this point. Many formerly rich had squandered their money on food-and new clothes to fit themselves-quickly, but the Hales made it last.
