First thing in the morning after he flies in, despite terrible jetlag in addition to the concert he attended in Spikemuth last night, Leon shows up in Postwick bright and early. Mum is the first one he sees when he enters, wrapping her up in a warm embrace and giving her a quick rundown of Kalos and Johto, with the most emphasis on his sunset proposal to Raihan. She’s crazy about the Dragon master, he knows. They both get a bit teary-eyed when he gives her the wildflower seeds from Laverre, and they arrange to plant them at his father’s headstone at the end of the week, when the weather has warmed up. With Hop, of course.

Hop is next in Leon’s sights, in fact. Leon promises to return within a few hours and spend more time with Mum, but for now he rushes outside and into the fields in the hopes that he can catch up to Hop in time to help with chores.

Luckily enough, he spots his brother amongst the herd, and jogs up with a lively wave and a big laugh. He doesn’t give Hop time to protest before sweeping him into a suffocating Bewear hug.

“Hopscotch, you wee shite, I’ve missed you something fierce!” He would keep running his mouth, but he is absolutely dying to hear Hop’s voice, and looks at him expectantly after setting him down.

She feels like Leon should be saying something. Scolding her, or arguing, or telling Hop not to worry about what she's saying. So why isn't he? Then she remembers the geas that she'd placed on him half-jokingly. "No matter what you see me say or do to Hop, you will not intervene."

- they’ve talked about it before, but leon is still terrified that if he gives up career battling, raihan will think he’s a shit rival and their whole relationship will unravel.

- he’s worried he’s too immature and high maintenance for raihan. that one day, his inability to do basic things like cook or finance or plan ahead will just get to be too much for raihan and they’ll dump him for someone better.

- leon is really, really afraid that one day he’ll let slip how disappointed he is in not having kids, or the fact that he’s still holding out hope that raihan will change their mind, and that will make them feel either guilty or angry with him.

- he feels terrible even considering uprooting raihan’s life to pursue goals he isn’t even sure he’ll follow through with. he hasn’t even had the tower a year; how can he be certain what he wants in life? what if they move, even just a few miles, and start a new life, and leon still isn’t happy? he just doesn’t think the marginal chance he’ll discover what he wants is worth raihan giving up everything they’ve earned.

- hop’s been doing a lot better lately, but leon is still very afraid that he’ll lose hop to depression like they lost their mum for so long. and leon knows there’s nothing he could do to stop it.

- he finds hop to be far more mature and responsible than he is, and worries that hop resents him or will grow to resent him for it. even more so for the fact that everyone seems to judge hop based on leon’s prior success.

- it’s very difficult for leon to find a happy medium in the attention he pays to hop. on the one hand, he ignored hop for so long as champion, and he wants to make up for it, but it seems like now if he pays too much attention, he’s being annoying and overbearing and hop hates it. he doesn’t want hop to be irritated with him, but he also doesn’t want to give hop even the slightest doubt that he loves him and would do anything for him. it’s hard, and he’s so worried he’ll lean too far one way or the other and end up losing hop.

as angry with rose as he is, leon still craves his approval, and is afraid that he probably always will. he still isn’t ready to admit that rose probably never actually cared about him as a person. he’s worried about how many of his other relationships will eventually be ruined by how much he depends on rose.

leon is honestly a little worried that the more gordie sees of him on a personal level, the more gordie will resent him for holding the champion title for so long. he is (was?) a strong trainer, but he’s such a foolish person otherwise. he thinks it must feel very insulting for someone like gordie who worked very hard for his position in the league to see the “unbeatable champion” behave like such a joke.
