how crazy-crazy is yardstick? I've had dogs forever and my first cat's dog-like behavior always surprised me, it's interesting to hear about other people who have had both ending up with cats that are perpetually playful and outgoing
Honestly he's calmed down a lot as he's gotten older and also since he got Saia to play with. Typically when I wake up at night, it's because they're holding their own personal wrestlemanias and racing rallies.
He's also not as outgoing as my pictures make him look. With strangers, he's reserved. Not particularly frightened, but definitely holding back until they break out the treats. His newfound friendship generally lasts as long as the treats do, then he's back to Quietly Judging them For Not Bringing Enough Treats. Saia is the super social and outgoing one between them.
Saia is also the reason why I mostly own dog toys. She will tear cat toys apart AND refuse to share them. She hides bits of fabric and fluff on the walls where Yardstick can't get them.
I wouldn't really describe either of them as dog-like, tbh. They're cats. Yardstick is harness trained and listens well to commands, but I don't think that really makes him dog-like. I think it just makes him very VERY treat-driven and greedy. Boy will do anything for a piece of freeze dried chicken.
My most playful cat was Skitten, who stayed VERY active and playful until the last few months of her life. She was a hellbeast until she was around 15 and then became a heckbeast for the remaining 5ish years. She was very forceful, demanding, and assumed everything was a toy until proven otherwise and she did not like being proven wrong.
