Day 1 of Celebrating Human Life
Hi there! This probably is only going to be seen by like three people, but I want to start celebrating innovations in lengthening the human life. I read the book Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer by Steven Johnson (link), and it had some very cool stories and explanations. I'd highly recommend the book if you're like me and really like non-fiction books about different subjects. What I think I appreciated most was the constant reminder that expansions of our lifespan happen every year, sometimes multiple times the year, but it still feels like the opposite. That's because it's not very common for media to talk about something that hasn't happened. People die all the time, but we don't talk about how many, many people aren't dying anymore because of innovations like road safety, the creation of penicillin and other antibiotics, and cleaner water systems in some countries. In dedication of this great book and the lack of coverage about things that haven't happened, I'm starting a series where I do just that! The first real post will be tomorrow or some point soon in the future!
