Skittles: Darkside Review
Skittles has evolved over the years from the simple 5 flavor scheme to many different variations. Reviewed currently is the 'Darkside' variation. Released as an exclusive alongside 'Brightside' Skittles it was the more flavor heavy variant of the two.
Some people have argued that all Skittles taste the same. This argument is indeed false. The quality which determines the taste is obviously flavor, so to start here are the flavors of Skittles: Darkside
(Forbidden Fruit, Black Cherry, Dark Berry, Midnight Lime, Blood Orange)
(As Packaged)
Starting with Forbidden fruit, the taste is slightly tropical Skittle Berry with an unexpectedly sweet aftertaste. Probably the most unique flavor of the lot, color and taste wise.
My Personal favorites are Black Cherry & Dark Berry. Black Cherry is a somewhat docile Cherry flavor, not in your face or sour. Dark Berry is the new version of grape, likely modeled more after Black Currant flavor rather than grape. Though I’m a lover of Grape anything, the Dark Berry Flavoring isn’t bad.
Aside from the flavoring, the coloring on these was pretty strange. I first thought I got a stunted package or something, most of the colors except Forbidden fruit looked washed out, I thought it was recently packaged.
Midnight Lime and Blood Orange are both valuable additions as well. Midnight Lime being an almost Apple Lime and Blood Orange a more sweet than sour Orange.
One of the benefits of this mix is that it combines well, If you happen to take a handful, you won’t get a taste out of consistency with the others.
The consistency of these Skittles is also particularly tough I would say, it might of just been the ones I purchased but some were less chewy than the original Skittles.
Overall Rating: 3.5/5
Pros~ Sweet, Easy to mix, Different Flavors, Almost Tropical
Cons~ Coloring, Heavy ratio of Green to other flavors, No Grape, Forbidden Fruit is a bit goofy
