The Woodland was your home, it was a place of safety and seclusion — you had liked it that way, you were free to care for the forest and the many creatures who also called it home. 

That all changed the day a Viking rode the path and ventured close, closer than any before him; bridging the gap built by your kind and his, in the most unexpected of ways.

⇁ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐢𝐟𝐭 — 𝐅 Fae folk had lived on this land since time immemorial, but for all the time you had lived in your little nook of the woodland, you had only seen one man brave the trail. And for his kindness to all who lay in his path, creature and legend alike, you wanted to give the hunter a gift.

⇁ 𝐀 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐫'𝐬 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 — 𝐅 Time had passed since you last saw the Viking galloping down the trails, and in his absence, your heart grew steadily fonder of the stranger — of his kindness, his softness. Fate, however, knew of this and sent a gift of its own your way, in the form of a proud steed, ridden by your Viking.

⇁ 𝐀 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐝 — 𝐅 Bucky’s embrace was something you had never expected to feel, nor crave, and as fate had it, Bucky himself would not let you go — not now, not ever.

⇁ 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐞𝐧 — 𝐅 Your haven had one last surprise in store for Bucky, and you were keen to see the wonder in the brute’s eyes once he finally cast his eyes upon the beauty of your Eden. 

⇁ 𝐅𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐤𝐢𝐫 — 𝐀 + 𝐖 + 𝐃 + 𝐅 War thrummed through the blood of a Viking warrior, it was a known phenomenon, and it wasn’t to be questioned nor tested. But what lay beneath the surface of your Viking was far more than that, and his wrath would be a testament to Tyr in his vengeance.

⇁ 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐫 — 𝐅 Thieves came in many different forms — from Loki to a simple villager, or to a horse with the mind of a trickster and a heart of gold.

a. How I Survived My Summer Vacation, by Tamika Flynn, Age 12 ¾, by thingswithwings (f/f, Welcome to Night Vale)

I’m not sure if you’ve been paying attention to Welcome to Night Vale at all, but if you haven’t, please check out episode 28 for some SUMMER READING PROGRAM HORROR and then read this fic, which is well-written and delightful and includes the decapitation of at least one librarian, as well as the reading of several books.

b. it’s about belonging, by skogr (gen, Dragon Age: Inquisition)

A fic about, well, belonging. It starts with Krem running away from the Tevinter army, and follows him as he finds the Chargers. This fic is warm and tender and full of hitting things in the face with sharp things. I love the way skogr writes Krem, and the ending is just really, really lovely; it left me feeling a sense of belonging, too.
