Rus realizes that he loves her as mother when he fell scraped his knee and Black wasn’t around to help him
Muffet carries him to the couch and wordless fixed him without scolding. She was gentle and loving, so unlike Black who would yell at him for being so careless.
Rus calls her mom first. He was psyching himself up all week and doesn’t want to embarrass himself. How would Muffet react? Would she throw him back on the streets? Does she not want a son? Black tried to talk him down, but he has to do it.
Rus walks into the kitchen while Muffet was baking donuts for the bakery, when he stuttered out a high and shaky, “M-Mom?”
Oh lord. Muffet just drops the hot tray right there, startling the whimpering skeleton, but before he knew it, all 8 arms are wrapped around his small frame, her cheeks rubbing against his, “Yes my dear? What could Mama do for you?”
Her heart is so full of love right now and she absolutely spoils Rus for the rest of the week.
There’s no set event that made him realizes that he loves her as a mother.
But when he finally gets to relax around Rus and instead of being Rus’s primary caretaker, he gets to be a kid.
When Muffet takes the burden of parenthood off his shoulders, that’s when he loves her.
Black takes a bit longer to call her mom though.
He doesn’t call her mom until well into mid teens and it was completely an accident.
