Blood was all they could smell as they finally gained access to the ballroom, the room dark save for the shaft of moonlight that filtered in from the broken windows facing the night sky. Rich copper bit at the back of their throats and no one could even begin to imagine what had gone on. Not until they could see the cause of the carnage.
When the lights flickered on many of the officers winced, the light bright in the room that had just been so dark. Many stopped when an almost feral hiss echoed in the stillness of the room pulling attention to where it was needed. Where it should have been all along.
It was like the room had been bathed in blood, painted almost, bodies littering the floor. Many were innocents, people caught in what had probably been a massacre though they could make out those who were probably the enemy. Probably because those bodies were the ones closest to Kudo Shinichi, the source of the feral noise. He was crouched on the floor, cradling close a form in white that was no longer as pristine as the moon. Fingers clutched tightly to the dyed fabric, pupils almost nonexistent as he tried to pull the form closer.
From beside Megure there was a gasp, sharp and painful and the shorter inspector couldn’t stop himself from looking over to where Nakamori Ginzo had stopped pale. It was a hard scene to look at, the Kaitou KID still and dyed red in a mix of blood. The moon’s favoured son would never fly her skies again.
It was a shock to see that the thief was a known teenager to the Ekoda inspector, a shock they witnessed only after prying away the young detective. It had been a struggle, Shinichi calling the thief’s name in desperation as they pulled him off. Had some one not finally managed to knock him out they’d probably still be fighting with him.
Nakamori was still reeling when Takagi yelped, eyes wide. “T-there’s a very faint heart beat! He’s still alive!”
Immediately the paramedics swarmed them, taking charge of the situation. At some point, as they were wheeling the thief to the ambulance in hopes of getting him stable, Kaito’s eyes opened and he found that his own world seemed to be be bathed in blood.
