Skycats and Sacrifices
Skycats
Skycats aren't completely based on Suncats, I may base this sort of on Juma, but they are not the same.
Skycats are chosen through a sort of ceremony, yes, but they live much MUCH longer lives than Suncats, and are able to step down whatever. They're probably more like Medicine Cats in Warriors than a Suncat in Jumalanpelko.
Skycats deal with signs from the Cat of the Sky (also known as Him or Them, Cat of the Sky's pronouns are He/They and has to be capitalized like Hers is in Juma). Speaking for Them and such, they are also allowed to and fully able to have kittens also, toms or she-cats.
Sacrifices
There are two different types of sacrifices in Sky Dwellers, the dead and the rituals.
Rituals are held in a special place, the highest place in the human ruins the cats live in, which also used to be used as a temple for the humans when they were alive. They climb stairs to the top level and lay a sacrifice that they'd killed before the cat's normal time at the top and then leave it there. They think that it's important to do that to please Him enough to not end up killing more than one cat Himself, or to keep disasters away. They don't do this often, and all the higher ranked cats vote on a cat to kill for this.
The other type is when cats die naturally. All cats die from old age in the ruins, and when they're dead the cats closest to the dead cat(s) take the body to a special grassy area with nothing at all but grass and flowers. They do this to let Them take the cats' souls up to His domain. It's not a high spire like their rituals but it's open to the sky and they believe it's easily able to be used as an area for souls to be sent away.
