I’m positive I don’t need to convince people of the Flambae=sun imagery. There’s his flames, the way he comforts and harms—sometimes at the same time, the way he always returns, the way he guides his team (I know you’ve heard the voicelines), the way people orbit him, etc. etc. we’ll be here all day
BUT! Might I offer Robert=sky? Obviously, there’s his nickname “blue,” and though the sky can be many colors, it’s usually equated with blue first and foremost
And then there’s what the sky is. It’s protection from radiation, from meteors, from whatever else might be in space. Now, you can argue about that being the atmosphere, but the “sky” is a representation of the atmosphere, a visible manifestation of it, so let’s leave that semantic alone
It is also a provider. As I implied, it regulates the sun, and it also allows for rain and snow. And though it does facilitate terrible storms, too, we can chalk that up to the ferocity Robert shows towards enemies
It’s often been equated to a blanket, and that’s true, but it also gives space to those down below. It’s not oppressive. It’s changing but constant, just like our boy Robert who grows and adapts throughout the story but is always there
The sky represents possibilities. Humans have always looked to the sky for guidance. Some yearned to reach it, some wanted to go further beyond—all because the sky presented itself as a challenge
And if you push through the sky, it gets colder and colder. If you manage to get past that, you’re in a void of darkness… but one illuminated by stars and populated by so many celestial bodies
I’m sure there are many other comparisons, but I’ll leave this off with a final Flambert one: the sky is the sun’s home
