it's gonna be a loooong post so here's a a readmore
DAYS OF FORTUNE / NEW YEAR FESTIVAL: starts a few days before the actual lunar new year. festivities include dressing in red and gold, firing off fireworks and having a big feast on the night of the new year. just before the feast everyone prays for a prosperous year
DAYS OF LOVE: typical valentines' day deal, except that the form of love used in the holiday's name means familial love in the skykid language so gifts are prepared for family members instead of lovers. it's still a popular time to get engaged or married, though
DAYS OF BLOOM / CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL: again, a typical spring festival with flowers and young livestock and such. a lot of the festival is spent making crafts with flowers and young plants
DAYS OF NATURE: assimilated into the cherry blossom and summer festivals
DAYS OF HEALING: first celebrated on the day a long war ended. white veils and/or head coverings are worn and the healthy fast for two weeks
DAYS OF RAINBOW: pushed back and assimilated into days of healing. people cast rainbow spells on the last day of the fast
DAYS OF SUMMER LIGHTS / LANTERN FESTIVAL: dedicated to partying, really. on some nights in the wasteland back when it was the capital, it was easier to see the fireworks and lanterns than the stars. gifts wrapped in colorful paper and sealed with white wax are often given during the lantern festival, so it's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year™ for a lot of people
DAYS OF SKY: not celebrated since it takes place entirely in an area that doesn't canonically exist
DAYS OF SUMMER: less of an actual holiday and more like when summer is
DAYS OF MISCHIEF / SCARECROWS' NIGHTS: it's halloween babey!!!!!! at first it was just when people got together to shoo away the migrating birds feeding on the crops, but eventually "human" scarecrows were replaced with wooden ones. the tradition still remains though: skykids of all ages dress up in their "scariest" costumes and go out caroling and make crafts with the autumn plants. anyone wearing a bird mask gets bonked on the head. the more devout pray for good harvests but most people are more concerned with carving gourds and making wreaths
DAYS OF FEAST / BLACK NIGHT'S FEAST: on the winter solstice, provided the harvest was good, everyone in a given village gets together to make a feast for everyone. this is the second most popular time to get engaged or married, so extra food is always made in the event that a family gets a new mouth to feed :)
