RiD 2001 Sky-Byte and reader go on a date at a seaside cafe and walk along the beach? Thank you :))
Sky-Byte was so nervous. He hasn't been on many dates before, and he's never been on one with a human. He knows that movies aren't exactly accurate as to what happens on human dates, but that didn't stop him from binging a bunch of romance movies to prepare.
He knows he shouldn't be so nervous. He's the one that asked you out after all, which took a lot of courage on his part considering he's had a crush on you for quite a while now. He was actually surprised that you even said yes!
He left the place you'd meet at entirely up to you, since you knew the area better than he did. After you texted him the location he set out, making one stop on the way. Which unfortunately made him a few minutes late.
When he arrived at the coordinates you sent him he was mortified to see you already waiting outside of a small cafe near the beach. How long have you been waiting? What if you yelled at him for being late like Megatron does? No, no, you would never yell at him… Would you?
Maybe this was a bad idea. He should just turn around and-
"Sky-Byte!"
Oh no.
You wave at him, "I'm over here!"
You don't… sound angry. He swallows hard and marches over to the table with his servo behind his back, preparing to hear an earful.
"You actually came." You say with a smile, "I was beginning to think this was a prank or something."
"I'M SORRY FO- Wait, what? Why would I stand you up? I'm the one that asked you on this date."
"Yeah I know. I just thought maybe you had changed your mind." You shrug, "It's happened before."
Who in their right mind would stand you up?! The nerve! If he finds the person who did this he'll-
"You must have gotten lost huh? Sorry I'm not better with directions." You let out a nervous laugh.
"O-oh! No. I was just… I made a stop is all! For you," He says, bringing his arm around to present a blue rose, "I saw that it was a tradition to give your date flowers." He remarks, cheeks glowing bright pink.
"Whoa!" You reach out and gently grasp the stem, taking it from his hand, "It's beautiful Sky-Byte! Thank you!" You say with a smile, bringing the flower up to smell it before setting it in your lap, "Have a seat. This place has a lot of good coffees, teas, and cake!"
"Right! Of course! That's how this works after all!" He says sitting in the chair across from you.
You give him a warm smile, "You're nervous aren't you?"
"What? No! Sharks don't get nervous on dates! Especially this shark! I've been on plenty of dates! I definitely know how this works!"
You laugh, making him more nervous. Pink dusts his cheeks again as he quickly grabs a menu and shoves his face in it looking over the options as he realizes… he has no money…
"Sky-Byte, are you ok?" He can hear the concern dripping from your voice.
"Yes! Very ok! And also very able to afford anything on this menu so it's my treat!" He says with a laugh that tells you he's lying.
"Sky-Byte," You reach out and place your hand on his, making him jump a bot in his seat, "It's alright, relax, we've known each other for a while now, I don't know what you think is going to happen but it's alright. I want to be here with you."
"You do?" He asks, lowering the menu to look you in the eyes.
"Of course. If I didn't I wouldn't have said yes to this date. I like you Sky-Byte… a lot… I have a for a while," you say, looking away in embarrassment, "I wanted to ask you first but I just… kind of chickened out every time I tried.
"Wait… really?" He lowers the menu completely, his cheeks glowing bright pink.
"Yeah." You say with a soft smile.
The small bell on the door rings as it opens and a waitress steps outside, "Hello, are you ready to ord-" She spots Sky-Byte sitting down across from you, "Er…"
Sky-Byte leans over the table, "Hey, what would you recommend here, everything sounds good but I don't want to make our bill too high."
"Do you like strawberry cake?"
"Yes! I love it!"
"We could get one of those to share then. And the boba tea is good! I really recommend the strawberry tea with kiwi boba, it's the best here. That's what I'm getting."
"Sounds good to me." He says leaning back up, "Yes we're ready! A slice of your strawberry cake, with two forks, and two strawberry teas with kiwi boba." He says raising to digits.
"Uhh… sure. That will be $10.54." The waitress says with a nervous smile.
Sky-Byte breaths in, "Right! I um, hold on, I have money." He says patting around his chassis "Might be in my other fin." He laughs.
"It's ok, I've got it." You say handing the waitress your card.
"Thank you, I'll have your order ready in a few minutes." She says, taking the card and heading back into the cafe to make your order. She comes back out a few minutes later with a huge slice of cake and two teas on a circular tray, carefully putting them down on the table along with a receipt bill and your card on top of it, "Enjoy!"
You thank her and place the card back into your wallet before tucking it away and grabbing a fork. Sky-Byte grabs the other one and you both cut into the slice of cake, bringing it to your mouths.
"This is good!" Sky-Byte exclaims.
"Yeah, they have some of the best cakes around here." You say between bites.
Sky-Byte uses his claw hand to carefully pick up the tea and take a sip, "You were right about the tea too! It's delicious!" He says taking a few more sips and letting the flavorful bubbles pop in his mouth.
It isn't long before you two have the cake completely gone and your cups empty. You get up and take both cups, discarding in the trash bin beside the building, then walk back over to Sky-Byte, "C'mon," You stretch your hand out towards him, "Let's go walk on the beach for a bit."
"O-ok." He says with another blush, taking your hand in his servo and standing up.
You grip his servo, leading him down to the shore. He follows along, letting your warm hand that dwarfs his wrap as far around his servo as it can. You stop on the sand and close your eyes as the cool ocean breeze blows over you. The smell of the ocean fills the air and the waves almost crash onto your feet. You step back so your shoes don't get wet.
"I'm glad you actually showed up, Sky-Byte." You say, turning to him with a bright, warm smile.
"Yeah," He responds, gripping your hand lightly, "Me too." He smiles back.
"We should do this again."
"Wait, really? You actually want a second date?"
"Of course I do! I like you, Sky-Byte."
"I- I like you too!" He blushes again, "Alright! How about another date this weekend?"
"Sounds good to me." You say bringing his servo up to give the back of it a small kiss, causing his whole face to burn a bright pink, "I can't wait."
"I can't believe you actually wanna hang out with that loser." Slapper remarks.
"Yeah, Sky-Byte is kinda lame." Gas Skunk pipes in.
"Like you guys aren't?" You half joke.
"Wow." Slapper responds, "That kinda hurts my feelings."
"Sorry." You smile, knowing all too well that he's being sarcastic.
"We're cooler than he is." Dark Scream says, almost like he's trying to convince you.
"Yeah I mean," Gas Skunk pauses to take a bite out of the cake you had made and brought over to share with them, "We don't just pause mid battle to recite lame poems at the Autobots." He says with his mouth full.
"Yeah his haikus kinda suck." Slapper says.
"I could probably make a better one." Says Dark Scream.
"He's not that bad, guys." You say, trying to defend Sky-Byte.
"Suuuuure." Slapper says before wrapping his tongue around his piece of cake and pulling it into his mouth whole.
"What do you have against him anyway?" You ask.
"He's bossy." Dark Scream responds.
"Isn't he like… in charge of you guys?"
"He's also full of himself." Slapper says.
"Aren't all of you?"
"He's selfish." Gas Skunk pipes in again.
"Megatron is far more selfish." You mumble.
"I think you mean shellfish." Slapper laughs.
Just then you all hear a crash outside the door, followed by a yell and a snarl.
"What was that?" Slapper asks.
"Maybe a rat got in?" Dark Scream responds.
"That rat is the size of us then." Gas Skunk remarks.
"I'll check it out." You say standing up and going towards the door.
"Hey if you die can I have your piece of cake?" Slapper asks.
"Sure." You laugh.
You open the door and slip out, closing it behind you. You look up to see Sky-Byte laying on the floor next to a piece of cloth mumbling something to himself. He must have been cleaning and slipped. You walk over and pick up the cloth before extending your hand out to Sky-Byte, "Are you alright?" You ask.
He stops mumbling and looks up, seeing you offering him a hand. His cheeks tint pink before he hops up, "I'm fine!" he yells out, "I just tripped!"
"That's good, I'm glad you're not hurt. Oh! Here I think you dropped this." You say starting to hand him the cloth, but as soon as you do a piece of folded paper falls out. "Oh? Hey there's something el-"
"DON'T READ THAT!" He says, hurrying to pick up the paper then taking the cloth from your hands.
"Ooooookay. You sure you're alright?"
"Yes! I'm fine! Now if you'll excuse I'm very busy!" He says before dashing off.
You just shrug and go back to your room.
Down the hall Sky-Byte finally stops and presses his back to the wall, looking around to make sure no one else is there. He unfolds the paper, one simple sentence right in the middle reading "I love you." is on it. He tears the paper to shreds. He knows he shouldn't be eavesdropping… but he couldn't help it, he just has good hearing is all. And after hearing you try to defend his honor? Well, he's gonna need a grander confession than some measly little piece of paper.
"What?! No! I-I don't blush! Sharks do not blush!" Sky-Byte insisted, his faceplate glowing pinker than before.
You laugh, "Yes you are, your face is bright pink," you look up at him and smile, "I didn't know you guys could blush. Is it really that big of a deal? All I said was thank you for bringing me the tools I needed. Do the others never thank you for anything?" You say, gently tossing the pliers back and forth in your hands.
His faceplate continues to glow brighter by the second, "W-well no… not really." He says rubbing the back of his helm with his claw, "Those Predacon ingrates never consider anything or anyone but themselves, they don't have proper manners you see."
"Not even Megatron?" You tilt your head to the side slightly.
"WHAT?! NO! I DIDN'T MEAN- I MEANT THE OTHERS, LORD MEGATRON WOULD NEVER-"
"It's alright Sky-Byte I'm not gonna tell him anything bad about you," you give him the most genuine, kind smile he's ever seen and his spark skips a pulse, "I know he's kind of… temperamental. I'm not gonna risk you getting yelled at over nothing."
"That'd be a first." He mumbles.
"You've been really nice so far, I don't want you to get in trouble for something that isn't even an issue."
"N-Nice?! I- I am not nice! I am the meanest most vicious shark in the universe!" Your smile grows at his words as his cheeks burn brighter than before, "Stop smiling! I'm serious!"
You laugh, yet as hard as he tries he can't be completely annoyed by it because it doesn't feel or sound like a mocking laugh, you sound genuinely happy, like you're actually having a good time talking to him. It's almost confusing to him. His blush fades a bit, but he can still feel the heat in his faceplate.
"Anyway, I guess I should go work on those filters Megatron wanted me to fix. See you later Sky-Byte." You say with a wave before turning and walking down the hall.
Without thinking he waves at you as you walk away, only to realize seconds later and forcing his servo down with his claw. He has no idea what Lord Megatron was thinking when he let you join them, but he knows damn well he's going to have to make sure you don't get hurt.
