How many months has it been? I’ve lost track of the days.

They say they want to help me. They say they want me to “get better.” Well, if they really do, why are they giving me such shitty peasant food, and make me sleep on a shitty peasant bed? Why do they make me wear this annoying prison uniform instead of my finest clothes? And for Arceus’ sake—WHY AREN’T THEY LETTING ME NEAR MY POKÉMON? I miss ordering them around. I miss the feeling of control I get when I’m with them. The jail people told me this was “unhealthy” and “toxic,” and to be honest? I can see how it’s toxic for my Pokémon. But why should I care? It makes me feel so good.

I want my parents. I haven’t seen them since I came to this dump. They won’t visit me and they aren’t even telling me WHY. So far, all the people who visited me were either Lefou or total strangers. It’s not fair. Every day I see rapists and murderers and drug dealers get long phone calls from their family and friends—and not even angsty talks. They’re HAPPY. Smiling and laughing it up like they were never criminals at all. And they get visits, too. Visits from their parents and their siblings and sometimes even their children. Why? Why do people who are worse than me get more than I do? Am I really that bad? Am I worse than, say, that woman I know who strangled her spouse with her bare hands—if she still gets visits from her older brother and I get nothing?

This is dumb. Everything is dumb. I can’t wait to get out of here. I swear, as soon as my parents let me out of this jail, I am punching them both in their stupid faces

a low rumble interrupts her as she writes, and then she hears the screaming.

WATER. WATER. FLOOD. FLOOD.

she hasn’t even seen it yet, but she starts screaming, too. she flies at the door to her cell and rattles the bars, screeching for her guard to let her out. what’s the fuss? he says. i don’t see any—

he lets out a cry of his own as he sees the deluge tearing its way through the hall. without sparing his prisoner a second thought, he pelts away as fast as his stubby legs can carry him.

❝WHAT?! what about me? you can’t leave me to die here. I DON’T WANT TO DIEeeeEEEEeeee!❞

shadowy figures standing in the distance throw what news reporters would later describe as sharp water—shurikens similar to those thrown by greninja. then, like a predator lunging at prey, the water pours through the opening. it seizes her around the waist as she struggles to run out against the current—she can’t swim. she thrashes as the water level continues to rise, up to her chest, up to her neck—soon it will consume her completely.

but it stops rising. instead, the water pulls her out, like ocean waves pulling a swimmer out to sea. she flails her arms and legs, expecting a struggle to stay afloat, but strangely, her head never dips below the surface. she’s swept along, gently but swiftly, almost as though she’s in a lazy river at a water park that got spiked with a bit of caffeine. and then, slowly, softly, she’s deposited on the concrete ground outside the jail’s entrance.

just like that.

she looks behind her. she looks to either side of her. wait—what? is she…is she really out of jail so easily? like, not totally easily, because she thought she was going to drown for a little bit, but it was a hell of a lot better than getting bailed out by her parents or her debt slave. she can’t believe her luck. it’s almost like some—some god came out of nowhere and granted her the flood that set her free—

and there, she sees her. swimming through the air as though it were water is KYOGRE HERSELF.

❝th…thank you,❞ she stammers, feeling grateful for the first time in her life.

an aqua ring lifts her up, onto the head of the leviathan. once there, the woman presents her with all the poké balls—she had rescued the pokémon that the jail had taken away from her as well. the rush of power returns to her, bolstered by the god’s heady aura, and the free-wheeling sense of freedom that filled her chest and her blood and her bones. she is free because of kyogre.

kyogre has chosen her.

she takes out gengar’s poké ball. she motions for the ghost to possess her, to give her voice the kind of sonorous boom found only in the voices of the legends. security guards gather beneath her, guns pointed at the legendary. surrounded by a swirling mass of water, cackling like a sea witch, she speaks.

❝I HAVE THE FAVOR OF THE GODS! LOOK UPON ME, LUMIOSE, AND DESPAIR!❞

her parents hear her call. they despair for the favor that, by ignoring their girl, they have potentially lost.

Well… Rui wasn’t sure how they ended up here but at least she was pretty sure she knew this place. “Necrozma… why are we on Sky Pillar?” She was pretty sure they were trying to get back to Johto, before an Ultra Beast spotted them and thought it would be a good idea to attack while traveling.

Necrozma, panting a little and scrapped up from fighting, cocked his head. “I had to make a… detour to get away… this was the closest portal… that was still in your dimension…” He felt kind of bad, but he couldn’t fight to his best abilities while also trying to make sure his trainer didn’t fall of his back and who knows where from there.

Rui nodded gently before patting the exhausted god. “Well… better than ending up on top of Mt.Silver or something… and maybe Rayquaza is here and won’t mind a visit…” It had been awhile since she saw the Sky Dragon.

Violet managed to get there and is hugging the Lillie frivolously. “[Poi! Vi hug human! Vi like human!]”

.. but then she stopped, seemingly to giggle.

“[Vi no lost! Mama there! Vi just like human!]” She’s pointing at the nearby beach, where the Lorekeeper was tending to Horsea and Aster. Looks like she managed to slip again.

“Mama? So... she’s your... guardian, I suppose?”

She looked over toward Zinnia. Wasn’t that the Draconid lady that came by that one time? How had she received a Poipole? This was just...

“...Well, it’s good you’re not lost then, but... should I tell her you’re over here? So she doesn’t think you’re lost?”

Curious, Ultra Beast clicks towards Zygarde. It mainly sensed the worries of what felt like a kinmate, and since it was near the Pillar anyways, it may as well investigate.
