Hey! So I was off tumblr for a while. Could you explain to me what is going on with this whole Cap is Hydra crap I am suddenly finding on my dash?
I’m not nearly as eloquent as other people are, so I’ll refer you to my ‘http://thestarryskiesofpalaven.tumblr.com/tagged/Antisemitism’ tag for the details. In short, though, Marvel did one of the most vile, reprehensible things they could’ve possibly done.

Idę dopiero w czwartek do kina. Serio dali coś takiego w napisach? Z drugiej strony czemu ja się dziwię…
oj, kurde, przepraszam, myślałam, że widziałaś. taaak, napisy są...ciekawe.

this was my reaction tbh
Spiders. Spiders as big as my head everywhere.
Actually, the only spiders in my house are small. but one time i did walk into my room to find a bread plate sized spider on my wall. It was mildly traumatising tbh
Okay, so here is that thing I was supposed to ask for a while now. Are houses made from wood really such a popular thing in US as the TV shows us? I've never seen a house made of brick or stone on any of the TV shows.
[Note: Skye and I promised to ask each other cross-cultural questions, since we agree that it’s sort of sad that we all get to know all these people in other cultures but rarely take advantage of that.]
Okay, so far as my experience extends, in most of the US, outside of cities and the west/southwest, houses made from wood are the absolute default, to the extent that a lot of houses you see that appear to be stone or brick are actually still “stick-built” houses, only with decorative facings. I never thought about it myself until an Iranian girl in one of my college classes expressed shock and wondered why our houses didn’t burn down all the time. I can only speak from a country/suburban perspective (in the city, of course, most buildings are made of concrete and steel and brick), but around here (the mid-atlantic states) in the country the only homes that are not made of wood are the occasional remaining stone buildings from early settlement (1800′s). In town there are brick houses, though. They’re reasonably common. But I have no idea how often those are solid masonry vs. brick veneer with a timber structure.
There are ALSO still a few log-constructed buildings around here, and I think that therein probably lies the key to understanding why we build with wood--basically, when Europeans moved here from places that mostly had had deforestation issues for centuries already, they found huge expanses of old-growth forest, to the extent that literally the easiest way to build a house was to make it out of stacked-up solid fucking wood, with some mud and straw jammed in the cracks. I guess it set a precedent? But I’m no expert.
