She stared at him a bit nervously.

She was never meant to be in this position. Her parents promised her to the church and yet here she was, days after being told there was a change of plans and that she would be marrying him instead of her twin sister. Did he even know it was her instead of Karlie?

"I..." She didn't have a choice. It was her duty to marry him and...represent the family. But God, did he even know? "Did...did they tell you it would be me instead of my sister marrying you now? I'm Jalon, not Karlie. They told you, yes?"

She didn't want him in the dark; if he didn't know he was getting her instead of Karlie, then he needed to be told.

"I'm not saying no, just...I'm making sure."

The gown was white, with a floor-length, brocade cape. The cape had golden fur around the edges, although Jalon wasn't sure what animal it came from. She thought he would go for her clothes first, instead the crown and hair piece were the first things Arthur removed. His touch was gentle as he carefully lifted the hair piece from her braided bun. Jalon's heart was racing, and her hands were gripping the edge of her cape to keep them from shaking.

Their wedding night, where they were supposed to consummate it. She knew where things went, but not much more than that. Did he know what he was doing?

She reached up and undid the clasp on her cape, letting it fall to the floor. Jalon offered a timid smile, telling herself to be confident.

Be brave. You can do this. It's just sex. It's not like you're going to war. And he's not forcing himself on you; he's taking his time.

She trusted him to be gentle with her, to be...not accommodating, but considerate might be a better word for it. He had been so far, so she doubted he was going to do anything terrible.

There was a silent question in his eyes when he leaned in, and Jalon nodded to him, moving to meet him part way. His kiss was just as gentle and sweet as their first kiss in the church during their wedding. It wasn't chadte, but it wasn't deep yet either. Color still bloomed across her cheeks and low in her belly, a welcome sensation.

So painfully gentle with her...how was she this lucky?

He clicked his beak at her, curious, with red and blue eyes taking in every inch of the stranger. His head straightened almost immediately, no longer tilted and turned to get a better look at her.

Not a threat.

His hand didn't drift to his sickle like he thought he may have to; there was no need for that here. Harmless, and certainly not undead.

"Are you a long way from home too, traveler?" he asked, voice soft but raspy.

It was such a strange thing to say. Why would he want to hate her? Had she unknowingly wronged him? If so, she'd like to apologize and make up for it. It wouldn't do for her to have not amend a transgression.

"I've found that hate is easy," she started slowly, unsure of where this was going. "It takes work to love another, to continuously find the energy to care, despite another's faults. Looking past that is a challenge."

They were called to love unconditionally, to make peace with their grievances and move on. It was certainly a challenge, one that everybody fell short of at least once in their life.

God knew that she wasn't perfect by any means.

She smiled kindly, "I'm sorry, but I don't know your name. What should I call you?"

"And...if I have caused you any harm, please tell me so I can make amends." She might not be able to undo whatever the damage was, but she could at least try to make it right again.

She was looking to have a private picnic with a book, but running into one of Arthur's knights was not a terrible thing. With how he spoke of them, they were all good and respectable people. He trusted them, so...she supposed she could too. She'd yet to be given a reason to feel otherwise about them.

Jalon shook her head with a smile, "No, no you do not have to vacate. May I join you though? If it's not too much trouble, other wise, I can come back later...but I come bearing food, and I promise that I can be silent, if that is your wish."

She had a book and the knight could have his quiet time still; or she could, as she offered, leave and return later.
