can you talk more about Skyggen?
Sure! Skyggen comes from the HC Anderson fairytale “The Shadow” in which a man finds his identity being slowly taken over by his actual shadow, until at last the shadow is set to marry a princess and the man has been sent to his death, everyone believing that he is the shadow and the shadow the man.
In the Frozen 3 story Skyggen was once an alchemist/magician who’s magic went awry. He was trying to find a way to send his shadow out as a familiar that he could control but and caused his shadow to start draining away his humanity and take his place. He finds himself about to be put to death due to his shadow’s machinations but is rescued at the last minute by making a deal with Voland.
Voland gives him a silver pocket watch that grants him human form as well as the power to move through and control shadows as he’d originally wished, while being bound to use his powers to do Voland’s will. He knows he owes his life to Voland but also knows it can be taken away at any moment. Whereas Karen follows Voland from fear and Inge from fanatic devotion Skyggen is basically just broken from what he’s experienced—his only real feeling a desire to gain revenge on his shadow—and will do whatever his new master demands. In reality he’s no more free or really human then he was when he’d been turned into his shadow’s shadow.
