FINISHED COLORS for my @MASTODONROCKS poster for the Columbus, OH 5/29/19 show at @expresslive. . My original idea for this was to throw a bunch of colors on it and then color sep it for four color process so it had a comic book feel to it. @ladylazarustx wanted to go one (more like 10) steps further and break it down to 10 colors. TEN COLORS!!! Most of my work for screen printing is 3-5 colors!!! This was a treat to see how Isaac sepped this. It kinda hurt my brain but it also taught me a bit more about working with a larger palette. . My objective was to make all the hardware cold as it’s reflecting the light and mood from drifting aimlessly in space. The organic pieces had to be warm. Especially the butterflies. I used the orange to grab the viewer’s attention and lead them around the poster until they got to the band name and date. . I’m REALLY HAPPY with how this turned out. I didn’t want to go nuts with lots of inking and shading because there was so much going on. I don’t normally use halftones but I was dying to use them to emulate that comic book feel! Adding the #skylab1 to the suit was my nod to the video for #Oblivion from #CrackTheSkye that this poster is based on. . I did all the colors in #photoshop and the text in #illustrator. . I wrote a ton more on #pencilling #inking and #coloring this piece but IG doesn’t let nerds like me publish novel-length posts. So I’ll do a full write up on my blog (brianewing.com) soon.
