Question: How did you come up with the different words used in tatooine language? ( I'm making a tatooine au myself and having a little trouble language wise)
Oh gosh. I have to admit, friend, that I’m a terrible linguist, so I wouldn’t vouch for my grammar and syntactical structure (alas!), but as for the words themselves:
I am mostly interested in the sound of the language. I wanted it to have a similar range and combination of sounds to what we hear of Huttese, but to also be a noticeably different language. So there are a lot of harsh consonant sounds, with lilting, flowing vowels between them. The vowels tend to be long, with the exception of e, which is almost always a flat sound.
Shmi also has a bit of an accent, so her pronunciation of words in Basic serves as a sound guide for inventing words in her native language. Anakin’s accent is much less evident, barely there really, but he also has a slight tendency to roll his words sometimes, and there are hints of a lilting intonation about some of his dialogue.
