I CAN'T BELIEVE COTHO MADE A SKYRIM ROMANCE VID TODAY
Hey everyone!
This is a long leap, but let's try it:
Has anyone downloaded the Skyrim Romance mod cover of the song Last Christmas? I've been trying to get my hand on it since years! And I've only managed to get the url of the video, which is now in private. I've tried wayback machine to play it, but it doesn't work.
Here's the url: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0HxOqO04Zzg
If anyone has any ideas of how I could see and hear this version again, this would be very much appreciated! As it has been stuck in my head for years!
the feminine urge to re-design/re-write skyrim romance bishop...
so I was reading the cancelled skyrim bishop romance DLC document again (it's out in their website here if you wanna read for yourself) and felt like discussing more oddities I thought were interesting, and they actually don't involve the horrible way that bishop and the LDB treat serana at times, just overall a lot of weird, contradictory statements. this is just another nitpicky critique, no actual hate to its creators or the mod's fans, dissecting this mod is just a hobby of mine as a nwn2 stan
skyrim romance neeshka vs nwn2 neeshka
also why is she even human i know tieflings aren't a thing in TES but she would've been PERFECT as a bosmer
also SR!Neeshka being completely ooc as usual, she's literally so sweet and loyal in nwn2 wdym she's a scummy tavern scammer/homewrecker?? neeshka isn't even FLIRTY in nwn2 💀💀
coming out as a skyrim bishop romance mod hater (LONG rant/analysis + NWN2 spoilers below, tw for abusive/toxic behavior)
aHEM... as someone who recently played nwn2, i can't describe how absolutely confusing this mod is, especially if you've no knowledge of nwn2 and its events, but even more so if you HAVE played the game. i only found out about nwn2 wayyy long ago thanks to the skyrim bishop mod, and it intrigued me enough to check out nwn2 since i was puzzled as to why the game itself and the mod were so inexplicably different, and especially what they did to neeshka and all the women in the mod.
so, coming from seeing all of skyrim!bishop's bullshit before anything in nwn2, i genuinely thought i was going to despise bishop in nwn2, which was partially true because at first glance they do seem almost identical, they're both antagonistic and sexist, but the first thing i noticed is that nwn2 bishop shows genuine levels of respect for Fem!KC, even if he's still a jerk to most female characters. it's written like "wow queen you're such an evil baddie i support it" and there's even this scene where he tells casavir to stop coddling Fem!KC and to let her make her own decisions as she is their leader. this is something you never see skyrim!bishop do and it's more about Fem!Dragonborn being basically a psuedo pushover housewife who gaslights herself into thinking bishop is peak hubby material. he also tends to like, really underestimate her and claim he's the only one who knows what to do at all times, while NWN2 Bishop actually treated her like a leader, despite his backstory.
and on the topic of NWN2 Bishop's backstory and the context as to WHY he's even a companion, to sum it up he's basically being blackmailed into helping the KC/NWN2 protag and their group and he despises each and every one of you... but not exactly, because you can genuinely build trust with him and he grows to honestly like the player enough to leave them alone instead of ganging up against them in the final battle. there's even some dialogue lines of nwn2 bishop wanting to leave together with the KC (forgot if it's female-exclusive, but yeah), THAT'S how much he can respect you. he's still a really shitty person and not everyone loves him as a character (i do love seeing him getting clocked) but i thought that was very interesting and consistent throughout nwn2. so, what happens to bishop after the events of nwn2? well, he fucking DIES. its actually quite graphic and horrific since he's eternally stuck in the wall of the faithless as he didn't actually believe in any deity despite being a ranger - i forgot how exactly he died but that's his fate. MOTB, NWN2's first story expansion elaborates much more on bishop's fate, but the point is, he's BEEN gone...
and this is where skyrim romance goes on a real skooma trip, because not only does it weirdly 'integrate' bishop into skyrim's world, it has a completely different lore for him and nothing. makes. sense. it's advertised like its something completely original when it's not, bishop is this awesome hot guy who can do no wrong (ok we know its nwn2 casavir tho <33), characters who oppose bishop get villainized, and so on (casavir, neeshka and karnwyr are in the mod btw. except casavir is written as a religiously traumatized sex offender, neeshka is a tavern wench scammer who committed the heinous crime of being a woman, and karnwyr... is just bishop's wolf lol he never had a personality but he's the only good character other than cael LMAO), i honestly wouldn't be critiquing it like this if it was openly advertised to be a toxic, abusive romance, but it keeps marketing itself as non-problematic and 'empowering' even.
anyway, skyrim romance bishop is also horrendously written and is like, the most abusive depiction you could picture of him. nwn2 bishop looks at this guy and shits himself. and this is where i ask, why was skyrim romance even created and advertised as this 'perfect hubby romance trip' mod in disguise of really confusing nwn2 fanfic? sure, maybe they were upset bishop died, i get it, i kinda miss him too, but why is skyrim romance neeshka just a selfish, seductive tavern wench when nwn2 neeshka is a chaotic, cutesy thief queen who yearns for kinship 😭😭
oh wait it's because she absolutely ends him in nwn2 isn't it- 👁️👄👁️
i could rant on and on, but i just really wanted to point out how nwn2 bishop is NOT identical to skyrim romance bishop, who lacks the nuance nwn2 bishop had and is a very poor adaptation of the character.
if this piqued anyone's curiosity please watch one of foulserpent's gameplay and analysis vids on the mod they're so informative and clock everything that's messy about it
as per tradition, what if willow was unfortunately exposed to bishop of skyrim romance infamy
Not sure how long you've traveled with Willow, but he's fiercely protective of the player. He'll give Bishop a gentle reminder to be a gentlemen, but he won't be as nice the 2nd time.
Willow might be sweet, but he has a bit of a dark side to him.
So I thought of making a sample snippet of how I think interactions between Siegfried (my OC from "Burn The Crown") and Bishop. To see how it'd flow, you know?
Bishop: So, your Ladyship, wh-
Siegfried: My title is "Siegfried"; use it before you lose it.
Bishop: And I'd lose what exactly?
Siegfried: I haven't decided yet. But do know that I don't need you unharmed nor alive to bust a dog fighting ring.
Bishop: I'd like to see you try, Princess.
Nebarra, sarcastically: Oh ho! Now that's a smart move! If you're no smarter than a skeever, that is.
Siegfried: *Stabs a dagger in his thigh, twists, and leaves it, walking away*
Bishop: WHAT THE FU- *devolves into incoherent swearing and name calling*
Taliesin: *visibly proud of Siegfried*
The rest: *impressed, but would rather that she had killed him*
Siegfried: If you're in so much pain, then use one of your potions. And next time, I won't be so nice as to only leave you with a flesh wound.
Auri, whispering: I could just make him "disappear," you know?
Siegfried, not bothering to whisper: Yeah, but we'd be set back several days if we want to bust that ring.
Auri: *sighs* That may be true, but people like him are dangerous.
Siegfried: If he becomes an active threat, I'll dispose of him. In that event---I'll be the one that eats crow.
Nebarra, shrugging: If you say so.
