It's so bad???? I can't comprehend this at all. I know it's part one of two but this is poorly written non-enjoyable crack from the actual fucking author of the series...wow. if tumblr hasn't incinerated itself over this yet, it should. SHE GOT RID OF HUGO, what the heck???? She killed off Astoria? I'm also really mad that Rose isn't even in the story? Basically, I agree with your assessment of this.

it really does come so close to greatness sometimes but it's like it can't quite make it. a great idea is there and it has potential but it's almost like stiefvater isn't quite talented or imaginative enough to make something out of it

honestly, yeah, her writing style, the plotline, everything is just ‘almost’. the characters are who they are because of the fandom, and i was so, so disappointed when i read the raven boys (especially with gansey - his character completely fell flat for me). 

also, stiefvater has a habit of publishing posts concerning issues that have already been discussed at large by the fandom (i remember the poc ronan thing) and acting earnest. sometimes i feel like pynch only exists bc of the fandom and for the sake of Representation but eh.
