Sure, you can take down a drone wirelessly or even with a trained falcon. But wouldn't you rather use a massive Nerf gun that can shoot down the target by trapping it in a net? - Page 8
Yes, you heard about this massively over rated anti-drone system right here on Drone Tribe and it has been used to shield Potus.
The skywall is a bulky netting system which we wrote about a while back. For the time being, it is the only commercially available portable solution to throw a net to capture a drone. Apparently they haven’t heard of racing drones that go from Zero to 100kmh in the same time as a Tesla can in Ludicrous mode. I would like to see someone shoot a net with a Skywall at that speed, miss and reload to shoot again. Then again, this Skywall 100 poop shooter was invented by the British.
The Brits are not the most ingenious blokes in the world. They discovered the workings of the Steam Engine while boiling water for tea and have judiciously proclaimed that Chicken Tikka Masalla as a British cuisine much to the consternation of the Indians who invented curry. So the Indians had to go back to the drawing board to invent Delhi Belly to punish the English while the Brits in return decided to sully their language by naming a fish found on the coast of Mumbai...as the Bombay Duck.
For me at least, the Brits are still very old school and their seafaring and fishing heritage shows that it hasn’t quite forgotten the casting of Nets to catch things.
Let’s be honest, if a drone is going to drift around slowly towards Potus, then it should be shot down quickly with a shotgun. If you miss, you can reload and shoot again. The Skywall 100 isn’t rapid fire and with each Net rocket cost up to three grand a piece. Missing your shot at a wayward drone could be pretty expensive.
What’s more, if someone wanted to use a explosive laden drone to target the Potus, they would be better off buying a racing drone and strapping an explosive charge on it. With FPV you know who your target is and with a switch, you could detonate it remotely. And racing drones are lightning fast.
It is without doubt that this over rated piece of drone system isn’t made to counter the fast footed drones that are becoming the rage. What’s more, its effective range of 100m is of secondary importance if you don’t fire enough shots to know the velocity and trajectory of the Net.
A frequency jamming shield would be best for the Potus, bubbling him up in a mobile no-fly zone whenever he appears in public. But that would mean the Secret Service would have to use smoke signals to send messages since all eletromagnetic RF waves would be affected.
This doesn’t bode well for anyone who has succumb to the glorious pleasures of technology and that includes the instagram generation.
