You asked for my Headcanons? Here they are. Mostly general stuff.

OG Teen Titans Slade Headcanons

If Wintergreen weren’t around this man would’ve probably died a long time ago. Not because Slade can’t defend himself but simply because that old man keeps Slade from accidentally starving to death. Slade is obsessive and determined I can easily see him disappearing into a project for days to weeks at a time.

He has a strict training regiment which most likely helps him maintain some level of healthy regularity when it comes to food and sleep. Though some times his obsessions can keep him away from bed for days on end.

Due to his healing factor it takes a lot for him to get drunk. He handled alcohol well before the military experiments and now even if he does manage to get drunk the healing quickly turns intoxication into a slight buzz before making it vanish completely.

But of course, with how in control he has to be all the time, he doesn’t like getting drunk in the first place. Even so, he’ll nurse a glass of scotch and ice late in the night.

One would think the loss of his eye would be a disability but Slade worked hard to overcome any kind of set backs that injury may have given him. Now, the missing eye actually comes with a few perks. For one, any half descent fighter will see his missing eye and think they can feint before going in for a low stab. Then Slade absolutely destroys them. It’s like a freebie.

Any robots that bare Slade’s image (complete with voice recordings), he spars with himself. Of course, they’ll never beat him but he wants to make sure they’re up to his standards.

A not so great side affect of the experiment that was done on him is that it can effect his temper. It’s another reason why he’s so calm and collected all the time. His composure allows him to think clearly, deny his enemies anything to grab onto and it can unnerve his foes. However if he does finally lose his temper he’s pretty much running on pure instinct, not holding back and kinda going into a bit of a battle frenzy. Training and fighting helps ease the boiling in his blood but it’s not ideal to charge into a real fight with your mind clouded.

A part of me is torn. Slade has a silver tongue when it comes to manipulation and taunting so I’m sure he can charm people just as easily. On the other hand, he spends all his time in solitude or around robots, his elderly butler or trying to kill a group of super powered teenagers. I’d be impressed if he even remembered how to talk to women anymore. I mean, he was married once so he’s obviously got some skill but if he wasn’t at least a little rusty I’d be amazed.

Personally tending to, cleaning and repairing his weapons in meditative and can help calm him down when he’s stressed. Plus, it is very productive. Sharpening his swords or polishing his rifles has provided him with the best thinking at times.

His regenerative abilities keep him in much better condition that any other man his age. Constant training can only do so much.

Seeing as how the show takes place in the early 2000’s (that’s when it came out) and Slade is most likely in his 40s-50s I Headcanon him as being a Vietnam vet. He served the last few years of the war. As such he speaks Tagalog and is very picky about his Vietnamese food because he’s had it in Vietnam.
