These are some 54mm (1/32 scale) I painted up using Army Painter Speed Paints over slap chop undercoating. They are on a zoned board the Red Sand Blue Sky, from Two Hour Wargames. It a gladiatorial combat game good for one shots and campaign play as either an individual or a Lanista (owner / operator of a gladiator school). Works head to head or as a solo game The figures are stock save for the Retiarius ( dude with a net and trident) . The net on the model was sculpted as part of another gladiator model on the ground. Not really useful for play. I made a new net out of medical gauze which i saturated with wood glue in order to sculpted it into the flow and drape I needed. Once dry, it was really solid and painted up well.

NBC troops from EM4 Miniatures Future Skirmish line. A friend was selling off their miniatures about 8 years ago, and these have been sitting unpainted in my box since then. I wanted to try out some new painting techniques, and these seemed like great candidates for the techniques I wanted to try. The technique that YouTube painters are now calling Slap Chop and zenithal priming are what I was doing 10 years ago, I just didn't have a name for it. The zenithal priming works really well with the contrast paints, much better than just putting the contrast paints on top of flat white or flat gray.

I painted "Stab Grot" on a whim recently ...
... and he's a lil treasure ...
... so naturally; he needed a friend in the form of KillaBoss
... and they're cool.
I wondered how I could "improve" the recipe and tried a single Gutrippa ...
... which was interesting but a bit "dull" on the read and green colours.
With StabGrot and KillaBoss I'd used a mustard coloured "Heavy Goldbrown" to undercoat both. With the Gutrippa I blasted the drbrushed model with some Dalner Rowley yellow ink.
I needed more/better approach! I assembled the rest of the pack, and, put texture paste on the base before slotting their feet into place. Probably should have *only* done that under their feet to reduce the amount of Dryad Bark I'd need to use to recolour the Stirland Mud after priming.
I tried to mixtures for priming black-black-grey and black-grey - I preffered the later, which is on the left. Ataraxia Painting Studio advocated for this approach to SlapChop - using a grey rather than a black as (in my words) it leaves some areas that can "get more dark" when you apply the washes. (Her videos have a manic on the verge of breakdown energy so ... go watch) Though I'm not convinced it was needed here, it did seem to look "better" ... but was a bit more satin than I'd like ...
I painted up these most recent two, adding white to the shield and trying to "airbrush" on the yellow ink only where I needed it.
I'm ... satisifed but not totally "happy" so I'll keep tweaking it. I think that tonight I'll matt medium to the primer and switch back to brush-on yellow.
A little slap chop using orange and brown
Been tasked to paint cursed city in slap chop so I’m having fun experimenting with army painter speedpaints. These models are great and the speedpaints make me feel like I’m painting a coloring book in watercolors. Still have metallics left to do but most of the base colors are finished. Wanted to try and go for a more colorful and high contrast take on the characters vs the original box art. Highly recommend speedpaints!
