Slap-stick Comedy and Comedic Timing, Commedia Dell'arte
Creator
Commedia is all about the bizarre relationships between characters and in the end has the purpose of making the audience laugh. Which led to my favorite unit so far, stage fighting. In Commedia its not about realism in fighting its about absolute exaggeration. Every movement has to be big, the screams ridiculous, and most importantly the audience involved. One of the most important concepts in Commedia is clocking the audience and this is especially crucial when it comes to slap-stick because it makes sure the audience is in the joke. Look at me, look i'm going to punch him, did you see that? etc. We were following a template when it came to the fight in itself but from there we were meant to create our own story. Once again I was working with Alejandro. As a creator, working with someone who has experience is always great since you can bounce of each other and generally they are more likely to give advice and input. It is important to keep the motivations of the characters in mind along with their relationship. Il Dottore and Pantalone are two crotchety old men who thrive off getting into arguments and giving each other bad advice for their entertainment. Pantalone is all about his money, while Il Dottore is all about his brain but they are both huge show offs which makes them the perfect pair to bicker and fight and drive each other up the wall.
Perhaps the most hilarious of P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster stories, Right Ho, Jeeves is an excellent introduction to the world of Bertie Wooster and his faithful valet Reginald Jeeves (did you ever wonder how the search engine "Ask Jeeves" received its moniker? Now you know!) - a world full of meddling aunts, sprawling estates, the mishaps of the upper class, genius chefs prone to rage, quick engagements, quickly broken engagements, and the notorious newt-loving Gussie Fink-Nottle's long and outstanding award speech. There is no going wrong with a Jeeves and Wooster book, but Right Ho, Jeeves has long been a favorite among the comedy series.
If you're in need of a fast read and you don't mind the stares that come with laughing aloud during public reading, this book could brighten your train commute to work, the moment you have between classes, or it could bring some lively entertainment to your lazy Sunday.

RUSSIANS STILL THOUGHT IT WAS ACCEPTABLE TO BLACK UP IN 1995
This is a still from one of my favourite films when I was growing up called Shirli-Myrli (which doesn't translate to anything, it's just jibberish.) It's farce comedy about a giant diamond that's so big it can pay for every Russian citizen to take a 2 week holiday in The Canary Islands. However, it get's stolen from the government by the mafia, and then stolen off them by a pro thief called Krolikov. Chaos ensues which includes Krolikov's hilarious alcoholic aunt, the discovery of not one but two identical brothers (one is a concert conductor, the second a gypsie) and the piss-taking of americans.
It's quintessentially Russian, which unfortunately includes overt-racism which I didn't pick up on until I rewatched it many years later. There's an actual scene where once the three brothers are done cursing the jews, the gypsies and the russians, find unity and toast to "the white man"! I kid you not.
