Herbert and Patrick aren’t good for eachother ( Relationship wise ). Herbert needs Patrick’s help if he wants to continue his experiments but he knows Patrick won’t come easily, so he uses Patrick’s deep unsolved emotional problems with the need to be loved as a tight grip to use on him. Constantly praising him for minor tasks and errands he needs done for him, through words or simple gestures such as gifting him new tools or ideas, and in rare occasions physical gestures: squeezing his shoulder, rubbing his back, hell even petting him ( if Patrick allows it which is never ). But what Herbert has come to learn is that he found himself falling for Patrick, seeing him more than an errand boy, and more of the boy next door ( eh eh see what I did there ? ) Herbert knows it won’t work out but yet he himself yearns for love and affection similar to how his days were with Dan or Ash. Yet Patrick only sees it as something casual, but he suspects Herbert wishes for something more and he dreads when the moment comes, when Herbert asks for more knowing he can’t show more than he already is.
