She jumped between them, the team and the Sungeneral. The horses came to a screeching stop, hoves digging into dirt and pebbles. The deadly chase took a sudden stop, startling the chasers and the feeing alike. The Sunslaves, until this point so deadly and unrelenting, became uncertain in front of the presence of this new entity. It seemed like the whole world held it’s breath.
And than a horrible creaking noise tore into the night. It came from the woman that stood between them and the enemy. Her body shook and twisted in an unnatural way, bones cracking and muscles screaming for the release of the tension.
From her back, a foul, black fog spilled into the air, followed by more shaking and twisting. And again. And again. It took Leona a few moments to realize that something... somethings disgusting and repellent and dreadful was coming out of her back, each and every one followed by that stomach-turning noise.
Soon, tha hideous black goo started to shape into extremities. Two human arms and four, huge legs, like spiders spread from her back. Their sharp edges creaked on the surface of the stones.
And then silence.
A deep, dark silence gathered around them. It was more like the death of the sounds, than the absence of it. And finally the newly formed monster opened her mouth and screamed.
Terror swept through every living creature and Leona found herself screaming along, hands on her ears, trying to protect them from the assault. The Sunslaves screeched in terror and agony, crawling in every direction possible, trying to get away from this unknown monster.
A predator has joined their ranks.
