You leaned against the counter, arms crossed, a teasing smirk playing on your lips as you watched Cove fumble with his drink. His eyebrows furrowed in concentration, completely unaware of the way you were staring at him.
“Y’know, it’s kinda unfair,” you mused, resting your chin on your hand.
Cove glanced up, blinking. “What is?”
“That you’re, like, stupidly attractive without even trying,” you said smoothly, tilting your head. “It’s distracting, honestly. How am I supposed to function around you?”
Cove’s ears tinged pink, but he rolled his eyes with a chuckle. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Oh, c’mon,” you grinned. “You love it.”
He shook his head, stirring his drink, clearly used to your antics by now. Normally, he’d just let you tease him until you got bored, but today, something shifted. Instead of brushing you off, he set his cup down, leveled you with an unreadable expression, and—
“You know,” he mused, voice lower than usual, “for someone who teases me so much, you sure do get flustered easily.”
Your heart skipped. “What?”
He stepped closer, a lazy smile on his lips. “Like right now. You’re blushing.”
You immediately covered your face with your hands. “I am NOT—”
“You totally are.” His laughter was warm, gentle, but devastatingly smug. “I barely did anything.”
You peeked through your fingers, glaring. “I take it back. You’re the worst.”
Cove leaned on the counter beside you, grinning. “That’s not what you said two minutes ago.”
