Rob's 2014 music collection

I'm probably a bit early on this since I'm still trying to catch up to bands I enjoy but missed but here is my list anyways because I am only human on a budget.

"Transgender Dysphoria Blues" from Against Me was something I look had looked forward to ever since it was announced.  The True Trans EP helped ease my appetite for more but it wasn't until I managed to pick up the vinyl before the CD release that helped make me realize how much more I love Against Me.  This album took the band in a new direction that I enjoyed the hell out of, not only through personal experiences and family, but because every word and note took the pain of "White Crosses" away.

If you haven't heard Spraynard by now, well I can't blame you.  I managed to start listening to them a few months ago and they blew me away enough to see them live and saw how fun and energetic they truly are.  The Mark Tom and Patrick Show was an album I enjoyed not only because of their live session they included, but the fact that the music was varied and felt good.  There was power and emotion spread across notes and lyrics and I enjoyed them heavily.

Sleeper Agent was a surprise band for me.  I caught them live before Celabrasion released and loved them to death.  When they announced About Last Night, I was excited.  Celabrasion was enjoyable through and through and I was hoping for more.  I didn't get that.  What I did get was a more bubblegum-pop rock sound, which wasn't actually bad at all.  It still had the good vibes and power I expected with a new direction I felt comfortable with.  It felt good to relax to.  It felt good in general.

The first I heard of Not Half Bad, well, I heard them through Anxious & Angry and looked them up to see 2 dudes making out.  While caught off guard, I knew immediately I was gonna enjoy them.  Their claim to Taco-Core punk rock is definitely earned.  Their EP, Sorry Dudes, has a raw sound that I can't get enough of and can't wait for more.

Four Year Strong, to me, had a rough last album.  In Some Way, Shape, or Form wasn't their strongest sound and that could be due to the keyboardist leaving at the time.  I wanted to write off FYS done but then I kept hearing good things about their EP, Go Down In History, and decided to give them a chance to find out that, yeah, they are definitely back and strong as ever.  Not a "return to roots" jam but a direction that is definitely promising.
