After leaving Wooyoung’s house, my phone immediately starts ringing. I glance at the screen — it’s Chaeryeong.
“YN, can you go to Buni’z and grab our coffee, please?” she says.
I blink in confusion. “Why can’t you do it?”
“Well, someone here is having an outfit crisis. Plus, you get a discount anyway.”
I sigh. “Okay, fine. I guess I can go.”
“We’ll meet you at the park soon!” she says excitedly before hanging up. I groan softly and start dragging myself toward Buni’z — which, of course, is all the way across campus.
The sudden voice behind me makes me jump. I turn around to see the one and only Hyunjin standing there, smiling.
“Are you heading to Buni’z too?”
“Why do you keep answering like that?” he laughs.
“Well, you kind of scared the shit out of me,” I shoot back.
“Sorry, sorry. I saw you walking alone and thought I’d say hi. So on that note — let’s walk together, pretty lady.”
“What?” he echoes with a grin.
“‘Pretty lady’? Seriously?”
“Yes, come on,” he says, grabbing my hand and interlacing our fingers.
“You know this is kind of weird, right? We barely know each other.”
“That’s okay,” he says easily. “We can change that.”
I just stare at him from behind, half in disbelief, but don’t say anything. I let him pull me along toward the café.
When we walk into Buni’z, Hyunjin immediately lets go of my hand and rushes to the counter.
“Seung meong meong!” he calls dramatically.
Seungmin, who already looks irritated, glares at him. “Here,” he grumbles, pulling three drinks from the side counter. “Don’t ask for anything else.”
“You’re so nice! What would I do without you, Seung meong meong?”
“I put poison in all of those. Enjoy.”
“You can’t get rid of me, baby~”
“Right.” Seungmin’s eyes finally flick toward me, still standing awkwardly behind them. “Do you need drinks made or what?”
“Right, yes—uhm. You’re gonna hate me, but… eight Americanos.”
He groans, muttering something about “stupid orders,” and gets to work.
“So, pretty lady,” Hyunjin says, turning back to me. “What are you doing today?”
“Well, I was supposed to go to the park, but—”
“That’s great! I’m heading there too — with two of my other soulmates. Guess that means we can stick together.”
“Right…” I say awkwardly.
“You know, you could act like you enjoy our conversation,” he teases.
“Well… it’s just a bit weird.”
“Nervous? No need to be,” he murmurs, leaning close to my ear. “I don’t bite, pretty lady.”
Before I can respond, Seungmin cuts in flatly. “Leave the girl alone, Hyunjin.” He sets two carriers of coffee on the counter.
“Fine, fine. You’re safe for now,” Hyunjin says, sliding away from me.
I step up to the counter and offer my card, but Seungmin shakes his head. “It’s fine. Keep it.”
“I said, you don’t have to pay.”
“Don’t think too much of it. I’m just feeling nice.”
“Okay then…” I mutter, picking up the carriers. “We can go now, I guess—”
Before I can finish, Hyunjin leans toward Seungmin again. “Meong meong, come here~~” he says, puckering his lips.
“Get out before I start throwing things,” Seungmin snaps.
“Yep, I’m going! Have a great shift, baby!” Hyunjin laughs, grabbing my wrist and pulling me out of the café.
“Well, that was… fun,” I say sarcastically. “Is he always like that?”
“Yes,” Hyunjin grins. “But he’s a softie once you get to know him. Come on, let’s head to the park.”
When we reach the entrance, I spot my whole group of friends sitting around a bench — plus two unfamiliar guys.
“Everyone, we’ve got coffee!” Hyunjin announces proudly, holding up his carrier.
“Is that her?!” one of the new guys exclaims, running up to me. His round cheeks make him look impossibly cute. “Hi! I’ve heard so much about you — you’re really pretty!”
“You’ve got a nice voice too! Jinnie, why’d you hide her from us?” he pouts.
“Anyway,” he says quickly, “I’m Jisung. And you’re YN!”
“That’s me. And for the record, you’re really adorable.”
“Thank you! Oh, and Felix is here too,” he says, pointing to the guy with a bun.
“Hi,” Felix says, appearing right in front of us.
“Oh my god, you’re so pretty—more than me!”
He just laughs softly. “Thank you.”
“So, are we invisible or what?” Wooyoung says suddenly, making me turn toward him.
“Of course not,” I reply, walking over to the rest of the group lounging on a picnic blanket surrounded by food.
I sit next to Wooyoung — and Jisung immediately plops down on my other side, stuffing food into my mouth to make sure I don’t go hungry.
We spend hours in the park — laughing, chatting, stealing bites from each other’s plates, and chasing one another around.
“Guys, it’s getting late,” Yuna says, checking her phone. “Maybe we should pack up and go home.”
“Me and Keeho can pack up. You guys go ahead,” Wooyoung offers, already gathering leftovers.
“Hey, pretty lady,” Hyunjin says, grabbing my hand again. “Mind if we take you home?”
“You know, if I didn’t have a choice, you could’ve at least said that.”
“It’s more fun this way,” he replies.
“YN, do we get to take you home?!” Jisung asks excitedly, practically bouncing around us.
“Yes! Come on — Hyunjin’s a great driver… I think.”
“That definitely doesn’t worry me at all,” I mutter, rolling my eyes as they lead me toward the car.
