It’s been a few days. Your phone is much more silent than usual. It isn’t gnawing at you anymore, just a silent wonder if you’ll get that happiness and comfort back.
You open genshin, out of habit.. or maybe because you miss him.

You close the game. Not bothering to play anyway.
You pick up when he calls, but not before hesitating a bit.. it feels different.
“Hi..” you say quietly
“Hey you.. it’s been awhile”
“Yeah..”
The tension is there.. no doubt. But after a bit, something funny happens, and you both end up laughing and after, the conversation feels like everything is okay again.
You play for hours, just like you used to. The tension has now eased into a familiar comfort you both recognize.
The friendship is still there, it’s not lost- it never was.. it’s just.. different now..
But in the end, it’s still you and Chris playing like always.
After hours of playing, it comes to the goodnights and promises to call soon again, and keep talking.
Before you can hang up Chris interrupts.
“Hey- can I tell you something quickly?”
“Yeah.. sure”
You wait for him to continue
“You know.. when I first joined you I never thought it would end up like this”
“…”
“But then suddenly, one coincidental game turned into every night.”
He lets out a long sigh, as if he’s been holding it all in for a while.
“And the longer we talked, the harder it became to tell you who I really was.. I was scared that if you knew, I’d lose being Chris to you.”
You stay quiet for a bit before saying
“But you didn’t.. you’re always gonna be Chris to me.”
The call ends. You both understand eachother, and it’s difficult but all ur worry has eased a bit after this call. It’s what you needed..
You’ve turned off the game, and just as you’re about to go to bed, your phone lights up with a message. From Chris
“I’m still in your city for a couple days”
You smile, settling into bed and opening you and Chris’ texts up in your phone. You wont answer yet.. maybe tomorrow. Unsure of how to approach that text. But it’s definitely an invitation to meet.. right..?

You sigh, placing your phone face down on the bed beside you before rolling onto your back. Your eyes drift towards the window as the sun is beginning to set, casting an orange glow over the room.
You aren’t angry.
You’ve been a fan of idols for years. You know why they keep parts of themselves private. You know what happens when strangers know too much. If anything, you understand why he never told you.
What hurts is that.. after everything, he still didn’t trust you enough to say anything at all.
Maybe it wasn’t his fault. Maybe it was yours for trusting a stranger you met through a game.
Maybe there wasn’t anyone to blame.

The silence is the worst part.
You'd gotten so used to random texts asking if you’ve eaten or slept well.
Your phones doesn’t light up anymore. It stays locked at times it would usually light up with a “goodmorning” or “goodnight” text.
The late-night conversations about games and music, and long calls into the night turns into.. well.. nothing.
Chan hasn’t been that active either. One photo here, a little message on bubble. But nothing else. You liked them absentmindedly before locking your phone again.
Somehow the silence on both ends makes everything feel more real. The longer the silence is, the scarier it gets.. slowly overtaking all the good and fun memories you've had with him.

You’re sitting with Jen, at her apartment infront of the mirror. Both in your outfits and finishing up your makeup and hair.
“You’re really texting your mystery man before a stray kids concert?” She asks you while finishing her curls
“He’s not my mystery man” you mumble
While putting the curling iron down she glances at you- serious. “Baby, what’s his last name?”
“It’s not important-“ she cuts you off
“Where does he live?” You groan “Jen-“ you get cut off again
“You don’t even know what he does”
You point a makeup brush at her
“He works.”
She scoffs and goes back to looking in the mirror “mhm that narrows it down”
At the venue - in line
Your phone vibrates in your pocket. A text from Chris. He’s been checking up on you a lot, it’s weird. Not like his usual self.
Jen peeks over at your phone and rolls her eyes “oh my god not Chris again, just have fun!”
“He keeps texting me, it’s weird” you tell her.
She shrugs her shoulders “he’s always been weird, I told you from the start.”
You sigh, putting your phone back in your pocket and move forward with the line. You can’t get it out of your head. His texts are so unusual for him.. “long line?”, “don’t use all ur money haha”, “I hope you get the best view”.
You frown, looking at Jen “maybe he’s just being sweet?”
“Or a stalker” she crosses her arms. Stopping the conversation about him.

After long hours of waiting, you’ve both finally made it to your places right at barricade.
“Ugh, what’s with him? He hasn’t texted me back for so long now” you check you and Chris’ chats.
Jen groans dramatically, snatching your phone and shoving it into her pocket “forget him! Just have fun. I told you! He’s busy”

The concert starts, and of course you’re having the time of your lives.
When it ends you’re both squealing with excitement, exiting the venue. Jumping excitedly, you hold her hand as you both head out
“It was so fun! I swear they looked over multiple times they got so close to us!”
Jen chuckles, holding your hand as you vibrate with excitement “they definitly looked over a lot. Guess they just know pretty girls when they see them” she pokes ur arm and you squeak and chuckle.

Back at Jen’s apartment, which was only a forty minute drive from the venue. The second you step inside you both collapse onto the bed, exhausted but buzzing with excitement.
“I swear chan kept looking at us during maniac!” You laugh
“Yeah, at your pretty face. I would too” she says back and you nudge her shoulder, rolling your eyes.
Your phone chimes. A message from Chris.
Chris: “Hope you enjoyed your concert. Just got off work. It was a long day, but worth it :)”

You frown, zooming in to see it properly. It isn’t a desk, or an office.. it looks like a hallway. Black curtains, cables running across the floor and multiple water bottles.
“What is this?” You mumble. Jen leans over immediately to look. “Let me see.”
You hand her the phone and she stares at it for a few seconds before her expression slowly changes.
“Y/N..”
“What?”
“This isn’t just any ordinary workplace”
“It could be”
She zooms in
“No no cmon look.. this is definitly backstage at a concert! I’ve seen a ton of videoes of idols backstage this is exactly it!!” She sits up excitedly
You sigh “But that would be weird.. who could he even be..?”
“Isn’t Chans name also Chris..? Maybe this is why he never said anything about himself!!”
“Jen that’s a stupid idea it couldn’t be…” you take your phone back, doubting your own words.
You look back at the photo. The time he sent it.. what he said.. when he stopped texting… it all does add up.. but no it couldn’t be, could it?
