Hello, are you doing okay? 👋 Is Edward Cullen a yandere?
Yoof, was this asked because of the new Twilight book coming out? This sent us into a swirl just like the Lolita ask.
Anyways, racking my brain as I try to remember Twilight... Julie and I consider Edward his... own sort of special breed. Kind of like a cross between those emo kids and a school shooter kid. There’s the shoujo male protagonist type and then there’s the YA novel male protagonist. He’s pretty much on the same wavelength as that male lead from Hush Hush when we discussed that a while back. I kinda get where people can imagine it: considering he pretty much stalker Bella and was like a weird territorial dog. But... besides that, there’s nothing else that comes across to tell us that he is “lovesick”. In the first book, Edward was all for Bella staying away and for her to be with another dude. It was through Bella’s insistence and meddling did he finally gave in.New Moon, Edward was still on his shit about Bella but now he disappeared to help her move on. Eclipse, Edward finally doubled down but I’m sure if Bella were to suddenly hop on Team Jacob, Edward wouldn’t put up a fight. Breaking Dawn, Edward was pretty much backseat at this point. Overall, Edward is like a weird angsty teenager with raging hormones and makes bad life choices because of this. Besides the stalking incident in the first book and his rivalry with Jacob (but these two things were normal in YA novels ngl), there’s really nothing going for him.
Edward is just some weird, edgy YA novel male protagonist. But who knows? Maybe the new book in his perspective will show something. I’m not counting on it though and we’re for sure not going to read it.
