Did Espio ever get to check on Charmy? He was on his way there last time we heard from him right? 😅

*It's way past when Espio would usually be asleep, but he's pacing. Charmy is asleep in his hammock in his bedroom and Espio is just outside his door. Every few passes, he'll poke his head in to check on him. He's a nervous wreck. This time, Espio walks in and puts a finger under Charmy's nose to make sure he's breathing. When he is, Espio lets out a sigh of relief and just stands there, watching his baby brother sleep. He glances up when Vanilla appears in the doorway*

*Vanilla is wearing a cozy plush bath robe over her pajamas. Her voice is quiet and gentle* You're worried about him, dear..?

*Espio nods*

... Come. I'll make you some tea. *She slips out of the room toward the kitchen*

*Espio takes one last look at Charmy's sleeping face and follows her. He sits at the table as she hands him a mug with a little bear on it. The steam curling up from it smells like herbs. It's soothing. He inhales the scent and takes a sip* ... Hm. Thank you.

Of course, dear. *Vanilla sits down at the table as well, not too far but far enough to give him some space. She folds her hands around her own mug of tea* ... I worry about him, too... He's a rascal, but he hadn't been hurt like this before.

Hm. That is why I remain vigilant. If something gets worse or if he wakes up, I'll be there to catch it. To save him.

*Vanilla gives him a sad smile and sips her tea* That sounds nice.. You're a very good brother to him, Espio.

*Espio looks up at her* ....... Thank you. You are a good mother. To him.

*She smiles* I know we aren't very far apart in age... But if you ever need a mother, you know I'm here.

*He stares at her. His heart feels like it's squeezing. He looks back down at his tea. She made it with milk and sugar. Extra care* .... Thank you..

*Vanilla just smiles and sips her tea. They sit like that for a while, not saying anything important. Just being quiet in the dark cottage. Eventually, they hear tiny footsteps padding into the kitchen*

*Charmy walks in, rubbing his eye sleepily. There's a big lump on his head, but he looks otherwise perfectly fine* Mm... Espio? Vanilla? What're you-

Charmy. *Espio rushes toward him, skidding to his knees in front of him and grabbing him in a huge bear hug. He holds Charmy close, one hand on his fuzzy head. He squeezes his eyes shut* You're okay..... You woke up...

Woah! Huh..? Why are you hugging me, let go let go let go! Gross! Blegh!

*Vanilla holds back a little sob and hurries over. She had been holding it together for everyone else, but she was worried too. She hugs both of them, kissing the top of Charmy's head*

Mooommmmm stoooppppp.. You guys are being weird...

Don't you ever. Ever. Get hurt again. You understand me you little nuisance? If you do, I'll- ... I'll... *He can't finish his sentence. "I'll never be okay again" lingers in the air, unsaid*

*Charmy goes silent for once. He mumbles something like "whatever" and hugs Espio and Vanilla back* .... Sorry...

Don't apologize, little bee... You're safe now. *Vanilla pets his hair, sniffling*

Yes... Safe..

*Even though he's confused, Charmy smiles. Finally proof Espio loves him. He's gonna use this as blackmail for sure*
