The night air was comfortable. A lukewarm breeze blessed Avalyn’s face as she traipsed through the dimly lit forest, the moons casting a soft pink and green glow over the trees to guide her along her decided path. Once again, she was collecting ingredients for Priest; seemed like he was giving her more tasks than usual, probably to keep her occupied so she didn’t have time for anything else. He did love to see her suffer, after all. But it was actually kind of nice to be outside in such favorable weather, away from that megalomaniac motherfucker. Last time she was in a forest it was pouring. Really, the more time away from him the better. Even though the hallucinations grew increasingly worse. She was more than used to them, though.
Soon she came up on a clearing and started to search the area for what she needed. Poisonous mushrooms, herbs, and more uncommonly, bones and lusii bodies. That is unless you went further in she assumed, but she wasn’t in the mood to deal with something trying to eat her. That would entirely ruin her rare good mood. Good for her, at least. From afar she could see a cluster of mushrooms nestled at the base of a moss covered tree trunk, and took her sweet time to stroll over to them. Squatting down to inspect them, she sighed softly. They weren’t poisonous, but she herself could sell them. So carefully she began to pick them from the mossy soil, and promptly placed them into the leather bag tied to her belt.
The sound of the distant calls of some lusus carried through the trees and filled the air. It sounded mournful…lonely. Feelings she knew all too well. Wherever and whatever it was, she just hoped it would stay there. Because it felt like she had company already. The feeling of eyes on her, perhaps peering at her from behind a trunk, or hiding in the leaves and branches above. Now she was on her guard, turning around to press her back against the tree, flitting her gaze from place to place.
She whispered to herself, “Where are you…”
