House Of Pain Jump Around Pete Rock Remix: One of my favorite remixes of all time. Pete was at the top of his gane when he did this one remixing everything from PE to Das Efx. This one is right there with the Shut Em Down remix. Pete was using every inch of Pot Belly back then still man he was bodying everything he touched and his rhymes were always a nice added touch. The song was already a classic and Pete just took it somewhere else completely. Love this remix love the original and loved me some HOP! Rokk-Patience: This uptempo roller boogie classic. I know almost nothing about the band I do know this song goes and has been a fav of mine. Released in 76 this tune always reminded me of The Bottle musically with its jazzy uptempo groove. This was always a fav of the English rare groove set as well. There album was in the vaults for 30 years apparently I gotta track a copy down. This reissue sounds great excellent job on the mastering. Gonna okay this and other assorted jams tmrw with @goofyfoot at @spareroomhwood at the @thehollywoodroosevelt. No hassles just level vibes. Mavado I’m So Special: This 2008 classic slaps like a Mfer. This is a must in every modern dancehall set. Mavado was a different type of DJ. Walking the fine line of Singjay and DJ greats, he has a unique sound and this song was HUGE in JA and internationally. Mavado is one if my favorite of all new Dancehall artist and I got to hang with him for a few @maxglazer ‘s BBQ a few years back! This was gifted to me by one of my personal heros @johncardiel more on that later though suffice to say as great as John was/is on a skateboard as person hes even greater! His taste in music is beyond top notch and him sending me this and the 45 pieces and a bunch of dancehall 45s the other day blew me away. Beyond humbled all I can say is Big Up yourself John! Me and him need to do a 45 set somewhere soon, His dancehall 45 collection is crazy mine is decent it would be a cool little party who’s gonna make it happen hmmmm? Johnny Pate You Can’t Even Take A Walk In The Park: From the epic Shaft In Africa lp this Johnny Pate banger is very similar to the title cut from Shaft In Africa.sampled by 45 King for Lakim Shabazz’ Black Is Back as well as used later by DJ Premier this uptempo blackplotation chunk of funk is a banger. Johnny Pate started as a Jazz musician in the early 50s. The bassist moved on to become a highly sought after arranger and producer having produced and arranged Wes Montgomery’s classic Movin’ Wes. Pate is probabaly best known for his work with Curtis Mayfield having provided arrangements for The Impressions hits Talkin’ Bout My Baby and classic It’s Alright. He arranged classic recordings for Bobby Blue Bland and BB King, and of course the SuperFly record for Curtis which lead to a falling out over writers credits thus ending there long and highly successful working relationship. Pate would go on to score a plethora of Blackplotation films including Shaft In Africa, Bucktown and many others. His scoring work is amazing often far better than the films themselves. He also worked with the Bee Gees on the Life In A Tin Can LP. Zapp Doo Wa Ditty: Zaap aka Roger Troutman and co were one of the best funk bands of the late 70s and 80s. His solo records were amazing I Wanna Be Your Man is one of my all time favorite slow jams. The guy was a musical genius. He with George Clinton invented G Funk, was the best on the talk box of all time and made huge hit records. A common misconception is that Zapp was only big out west which was completely faske. Theres a reason EPMD sampled More Bounce: We cane up roller skating to that jam and to Dancefloor and all the Zapp Roger hits. Dude was supremely talented along with The Gap Band and PFunk they helped start the modern fink thing that never goes out of style...it never will. Funk had the most low end prior to the 808 being unleashed on the world hence it was street music. Zapp made great street music and Roger Troutman is one of the most seminal cats to ever do it.
